Men’s Basketball Player Quotes
SU vs. Seton Hall
Saturday, January 8, 2004
Senior center Craig Forth
On the game:
“We played well tonight. We shut down their two top scorers and we were able to convert on the other end.”
On SU’s play versus big guys:
“The way we were playing in the zone early in the year, we were letting too many big guys just post-up right in the middle there. Terrence and I have started to settle into the middle of the zone, and the forwards have helped us out a lot by just playing in a little bit.”
On the support of the crowd:
“Syracuse is great when that happens. I played well tonight and I think I can do a lot better. Anytime you can get a 25-point win and walk off to standing ovations – it is definitely a nice feeling.”
Junior guard Billy Edelin
On SU’s performance:
I think it was good. If you remember, Seton Hall beat us bad down at their place last year. They overpowered us and they are a physical team. They always play very strong and they are scrappy. To beat them by 20, or so, points, that is a big game for us.”
On being patient for more playing time:
“I have realized that in college you just have to enjoy it. I want to win another championship and if I have to be patient then that’s what I will do.”
On the team’s play this season:
“As we continue to get better, and roll on all cylinders, I think the sky is the limit for this team.”
Junior guard Gerry McNamara
On how he got into a rhythm with so much pressure:
“It is just being ready at all times, I think. I try to always have a mentality that I will get an open look. I think I did a good job of staying on the attack at all times. If I wasn’t going to shoot, I would act like I was going to shoot.”
On Craig Forth:
“Craig did a great job. He is going to be open sometimes. Hakim and I are going to draw two or three guys. Craig is doing a great job of realizing that and he screens away and slashes high. He is doing a great job and, defensively, he played great. He set the tone early, we were up 6-0 and (SHU forward) Kelly Whitney went up for a dunk and Craig didn’t want any part of it. He hit pretty hard and set the tone early.”
On his health:
“I feel great. I feel as good as I have ever felt. I am looking forward to moving on and I am not worried about legs or anything. I am just worried about the next game.”
Senior forward Hakim Warrick
On Craig Forth:
“He definitely did a really good job finishing down low. I think the best job he did was on defense. That is what we need him to do. We need him to go out there and be aggressive on defense.”
On Gerry McNamara:
“They left him open a couple times and he is going to knock those shots down when he has the chance.”
On the physical nature of the game:
“It was a physical game, but that is BIG EAST play. We go the win and that is all I am worried about.”
On Billy Edelin’s play:
“It was great seeing him out there. He really gave us a lift off the bench and that is what we need.”
On playing Notre Dame on Big Monday (Jan. 10):
“We know it is going to be a packed house down there on Big Monday. They are coming off two big wins, so they are definitely going to come out ready to play.”
