2023 Otto Tryout Information
Think you have what it takes to be a member of the Otto team?
We hope you do too! The mascot program is often looking for new teammates – if you read the below and believe that being Otto is your destiny, then email Otto’s coach at Otto@syr.edu
Being Otto requirements:
- Open to undergraduate, full time Syracuse University students ONLY
- On campus all year, no study abroad plans that calendar year
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (first year, first semester students excused)
- Height: 5’6”-5’9”
- Absolutely must bleed orange!
Characteristics that make a great mascot team member:
- Excellent Collaborator/Team Player
- Athletic, or at least coordinated
- Creative
- Cooperative and adaptable
- Easy-going
The recruitment process (what to expect):
For most people the tryout process takes 4-6 weeks and includes a few rounds of interviews and discussions to determine personality and team fit. There’ll also be a physical fitness component of the tryout in conjunction with the Sports Medicine Staff. All potential student athletes will be required to submit medical records, a current physical and insurance information to the Athletics Department during the tryout phase.
