Syracuse Player Quotes
Syracuse vs. Cincinnati
January 21, 2006
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Freshman Jenny Eckhart
On her overall performance:
“I wish I could have done more for the team. Anything that could have helped us be more in the game or get closer to a win, whether it’s getting more assists, less turnovers, taking care of the ball more or getting more shots off.”
On the Cincinnati defense:
“In the beginning I think it was a little bit more difficult for us to get shots up. We weren’t really sure where the shots were going to come from. I think as we went through the first have a little more, even though we weren’t scoring a lot we were starting to get more shot opportunities even though we weren’t finishing. I thought it was just a matter of time before we started cracking their defense and finding out where the openings were going to be. But we didn’t come on to it right away and I think that is what slowed us down in the beginning.”
On SU’s shooting:
“Everyone has off nights. Everyone missed shots and it was just unfortunate that the ball was not going in the basket. It just happens every so often.”
Freshman Brittany Smith
On her growing maturity as a player:
“It’s just about working hard and getting better everyday through practice and through the games and it just has to be worked on.”
On her ability to be an outside threat:
“It opens the game up once you knock some outside shots down. It makes you hard to defend as a team and individually.”
On missing shots:
“It was very difficult especially for me today, I missed lay ups and that is not characteristic of me and I was really down at halftime, but my teammates were telling me to keep my head in there and I played better in the second half so it was really helpful.”
Freshman Keri Laimbeer
On the presence of her father (Bill) in the stands:
“It was his first game that he got to watch here in Syracuse. I was excited to see him there and I’m always glad to have him in the stands.
On the Cincinnati defense and the team’s missed shots:
“It makes it hard for us confidence-wise being so young. The zone really gave us a lot of problems. We had to knock down jump shots and we had trouble swinging the ball and finding open players.”
On the team’s play in the BIG EAST:
“We’re getting better everyday. We are working hard in practice. Our coaches are behind us and we’re behind each other. Everyone sees the record and thinks that is what the team is like. but we see what is going on behind the scenes and we are getting better everyday.
