After rallying to win in its previous bowl appearance, the roles were reversed and the Orange lost to LSU. The Tigers came from behind to win the 31st Sugar Bowl, 13-10.Â
Roger Smith kicked a 23-yard field goal, and Brad Clarke ran 32 yards for a touchdown after a blocked punt to give SU a 10-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers tied the score midway through the third quarter when Billy Ezell hit Doug Moreau on a 57-yard scoring play. Joe Labruzzo caught a pass from Ezell to complete the two-point conversion. With 3:50 left to play, Moreau kicked a 28-yard field goal to win it.Â
Jim Nance gained 70 yards rushing for the Orange, while Floyd Little had 40. Donald Schwab led the Tigers with 81 yards on the ground.
