Coach Cieplicki Quotes
Syracuse vs. Louisville
January 3, 2006
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
On the game:
“It’s just going to be tough to win when the other team shoots the ball like that. I thought our energy was good and I thought we played well as a team, but obviously we just couldn’t overcome the shooting that Louisville had tonight.”
On playing zone most of the game:
“We played a few possessions of man at the end of the second half. We just have to get better. If we’re going to play a certain way, we have to play it well. There’s a fine line in terms of how to do that, but we knew it was going to be tough. The one possession we went man, they went right inside and we fouled. Their strength is their inside game. As much as they shot the ball well tonight, they really are more of a high-low post oriented team.”
On not pounding the ball inside as much:
“I think we punched it in early and I think we missed some shots early. We’re trying to get some balance in our game as well. I thought we had some good opportunities inside, especially at the beginning of the game that we didn’t convert. I’m not giving up on it at all. It’s all about balance and we’re just trying to find that point where we’re getting a little bit of everything. Early in the game, we went to Vaida (Sipaviciute) a few times and she didn’t make plays; and rather than allow that to set a tone I think Tracy (Harbut) did a good job in balancing it out and attacking and I think that’s the kind of tone we’re looking to set. That was the case tonight. Hopefully Saturday we’ll be more effective inside.”
On the team’s execution:
“I thought there were opportunities in the second half, you know the ball rolling around and we don’t get it and they get a 3-point shot out of it. We foul a 3-point shooter who we want to shoot the ball from the corner. There are certain plays that we have to play better in terms of recognizing and finishing. I think once we do that we’re going to be okay, but it’s a learning process. We just have to get better at it. It’s really pretty simple.”
