Coach Cieplicki Quotes
Syracuse vs. West Virginia
January 7, 2006
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
“I have to start by saying that I appreciate people coming out to the game tonight. I know it’s not a staggering attendance number but I thought there was good energy in the building. That is something I want to recognize. I wish we could have given them more to cheer about but I think it is going to come. At the half we had 24 points. We get one field goal out of three starters (in the first half). We are going to have to score points because we are giving up 68 a game. So that is the reality of it and hopefully we can start putting offense and defense together a little bit.”
On Syracuse’s shooting struggles:
“We had layups we missed. We had free throws we missed. We had shooters shooting the shots they shoot best. One of the things we know going into every game is that we have to make shots to be in the game. So when that doesn’t happen it really turns into an uphill battle.”
On Vaida Sipaviciute’s recent struggles:
“I really can’t speak for her. What I see is her strength and aggressiveness with the ball. I think now that we are playing against teams that are more athletic, she has to raise the level. It hasn’t happened yet. Hopefully it will kick in.”
