West Virginia won the opening coin toss and deferred to the second half.
Receiver Mike Williams’ 47-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter was the longest reception of his career.
Williams set a career high with 99 receiving yards in the game.
Syracuse’s 11-play, 80-yard opening scoring drive was its second-longest of the 2006 season.
Senior Brendan Carney became SU’s career punting yardage leader against the Mountaineers. He kicked seven times for 275 yards at West Virginia and now has 10,256 career punting yards, breaking the old mark of 10,073 held by Mike Shafer.
Senior quarterback Perry Patterson scored his first rushing touchdown of the season in the second quarter on a three-yard bootleg. It was his seventh career rushing TD. His first-quarter touchdown pass was the 22nd of his career moving him into sole possession of sixth on SU’s career passing touchdown ledger.
West Virginia’s Pat White and Steve Slaton each rushed for more than 100 yards against SU. It marked the first time since 2001 against Miami (Frank Gore and Clinton Portis) the Orange has allowed two different backs to go for more than 100 yards in the same game.
Pat White tied the SU opponent record for rushing touchdowns with four. He now shares the record with Sherman Myers (Temple, 1979) and Eddie Meyers (Navy, 1981).
West Virginia’s 457 rushing yards is the most SU has ever surrendered on the ground to an opponent, breaking the old standard of 455 set by Pittsburgh in 1973.
Syracuse yielded 562 yards of total offense to the Mountaineers, the 10th-highest opponent total in school history.
Nick Chestnut’s interception on the final play of the first half was the first of his career. It was SU’s 10th INT of the season.
Safety Joe Fields made a career-best 12 tackles at West Virginia, including personal highs in solo stops (5) and assists (7).
A.J. Brown made his first career start at West Virginia and posted a personal-best five tackles.
Linebacker Luke Cain and defensive lineman Nick Santiago each forced the first fumbles of their careers in the contest.
Safety Donta Herrod made the first fumble recovery of his career against the Mountaineers.
Andrew Robinson made his first career appearance at West Virginia and registered his first pass attempt.
