Why a five year contract for Quentin Hillsman?
“I think it shows our commitment. I think this guy is going to be a star and you’ve got to give someone the chance and the opportunity to be a star. He will be a star, there’s no question about it in my mind. I think that’s the right thing to do with any coach. I don’t think I’ve brought in any coaches that aren’t on a five year contract.”
By hiring him right before the season, did you want to have it official before the year began?
“The timing was such that he did such a great job that he convinced me earlier than I thought. The guy, to me, has all the ingredients and all the variables to be great. I’ve been around a lot of great coaches, I’ve hired a lot of great coaches and he has a lot of those common denominators. I was impressed, I was impressed early. This is one of the things I think I’ve done well in the last 15 to 20 years. I got the right feel for Quentin Hillsman and I don’t have to wait any longer.”
Did you look anywhere else?
“I always look. I look all over the country, but at the same time, I look at what’s the best thing to make Syracuse extraordinary. To me, it’s having Quentin Hillsman here.”
