Matt Cutia was a captain and two-time All-American for the Orange. He helped lead the team to the 1999 National Championship, in which he scored nine goals throughout the tournament including two in the championship game against Virginia.
Cutia ranks among the elite on many of SU’s record lists. He is tied for eighth on the single game goals list (7) and tied for 17th for single season goals (44) and career goals (106). He is also tied for 10th on SU’s single game points list after his performance against Rutgers in his senior year when he scored 10 points. He ranks 12th for single season points (80) and 22nd for career points (161). He also is tied for 19th on the single season assist list with 36 assists.
Senior Year (1999): One of four team captains… named a Second-Team All-American…started and played in all 17 games…second-highest scorer on team with 80 points…first on team in goals-scored with 44…had 36 assists and recovered 50 groundballs…scored a season-high seven goals in the first game of the season against Rutgers…scored in all four NCAA tournament games, including four goals against Loyola in the quarterfinal win and two goals against Virginia in the championship win…led team with Ryan Powell with seven points in win over Loyola…played for the North in the North/South Collegiate All-Star game.
Junior Year (1998): Named a Second-Team All-American…third-leading scorer for SU with 39 goals…scored a career-high five goals in wins against Hobart, Georgetown and Princeton…started in all 14 games at midfield…ranked 18th in the nation in goals (2.8 gpg)…scored five goals against Princeton in the Final Four.
Sophomore Year (1997): Started all 14 games in the midfield…seventh on the team in scoring with 17 points…had 10 goals and seven assists…took 38 shots and collected 17 groundballs…had a then career-high four points with two goals and two assists in the win against Rutgers…had a goal and two assists in the NCAA Semifinal loss to Maryland.
Freshman Year (1996): Played in all 15 games, starting seven…sixth on the team in scoring, with 13 goals and one assist…did not score until fifth game of the season, but then scored in all but one of the remaining 10 games…had four two-goal games.
High School: Attended Homer High School…three-year midfielder…also lettered in basketball and football…set school record with 106 points as a senior…had 129 goals, 118 assists and 247 points in his career…gold medalist in the 1994 Empire State games…All-American and Herald-American Player of the Year as a senior…team captain and MVP as a junior and senior and team captain as a senior.
Personal: Son of Sam Cutia and Wynanne Lottridge…one sister and two stepbrothers…born October 30, 1977 in Cortland, N.Y….majored in information management and technology.
