Cross Country/Track & Field Early Signees
Curtis Bixler, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., was the 2005 AAA state champion in the 3,200 meters and the runner-up in the indoor 3.000-meter run. He also finished 11th at the Penn Relays in the 3000 and sixth at the PIAA cross country race. Bixler has garnered six all-state honors in Pennsylvania, including two selections to the cross country team in 2004 and 2005, the indoor mile, the 3.000 meters in 2004 and 2005, and the outdoor 3,200 meters in 2005. He was also an All-American in the indoor 5,000-meter run. Bixler’s personal bests include 4:19.36 in the 1,600, 8:34.53 in the 3,000 meters, 9:14.80 in the 3,200 and 15:09.17 in the 5,000 meters.
Jay Koloseus, who hails from Guilford, Conn., was a 2005 Foot Locker National Finalist (20th). He was the Connecticut Cross Country Open state champion and the New England cross country runner-up. He won both the indoor and outdoor state open championships in the 3,200 meters and captured the New England title in the 3,200 meters and was the national runner-up in the 5,000-meter run this indoor season. Koloseus is a three-time all-state selection in track and cross country and won nine individual state championships. His personal bests include 14:58.15 in the indoor 5,000, 8:31.71 in the indoor 3,000 meters and 9:04.22 in the outdoor two mile.
Brad Miller, from Manheim, Pa., was a four-time Pennsylvania state medalist. He was a first-team all-state selection in 2004 and a second-team honoree in 2005. He has twice been the District III runner-up in the 1,600 meters. In 2006, Miller won the district championships in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200. He capped his career by winning the Pennsylvania state title in the 1,600. Miller’s personal bests include 1:53.2 in the 800 meters and 4:10.43 in the 1,600 and 9:09.6 in the 3,200-meter run.
Jeff Scull is coming from Colorado State where he competed in the 2004 NCAA Cross Country Championship. He recently finished 13th at the Canadian Senior Cross Country Championship. In April, 2006 her placed 99th on the senior long course in the World Cross Country Championship. Scull, a native of Jordan Station, Ontatio, holds personal bests of 3:54.39 in the 1,500 and 8:29.84 in the 3,000 meters.
Stefanie Slekis, from Montclair, Va., has compiled 15 all-state selections in cross country and indoor and outdoor track (1600 meters, 4x800-meter relay, 3,200 meters). She earned All-America honors in the distance medley relay at the NIKR Indoor Nationals in 2004. At the NIKE Outdoor Nationals she was the runner-up in the 5,000. She has been a Northwest Region champion seven times, once in cross country, twice in the the indoor 1,600 meters, once in the indoor 4x800-meter relay, once in the indoor 3,200-meter run, once in the outdoor 1,600 and once in the outdoor 3,200 meters.
Slekis was the state runner-up in the outdoor 1,600 in 2004, and took third in the 3,200. She ws the state runner-up in the outdoor 3,200 meters and earned all-state recognition in the both the 1,600 and the 4x800-meter relay. She owns personal bests of 17:44.17 in the 5,000-meter run, 10:54.09 in the 3,200, 4:59.83 in the 1,600, 4:40.73 in the 1,500-meter run, and 2:18.80 in the 800 meters.
