Syracuse vs. Notre Dame
January 30, 2007
Carrier Dome-Syracuse, N.Y.
Senior forward Demetris Nichols
On Notre Dame’s strong first half:
“They came out real hot and hit big shots. They spaced us out a lot and made some shots in the first half. We really couldn’t get over that hump, and they shot the ball like we were in Notre Dame.”
On pressing late in the game:
“We just dug ourselves a hole and we didn’t have enough time to get out of it. We fought back to show we had a little something but we have to learn to play with that fight and that heart for the whole game.”
On the team’s inconsistency:
“I think it’s about how you start and how you finish and if we play well the next couple games and get over 20 wins, we’ll be fine. It’s going to be about how we come back from these three losses. These next couple games are really going to show our character, and we’ll see what happens.”
Senior forward Terrence Roberts
On the team’s defense against Notre Dame’s shooters:
“I’ll give it to them because they hit the shots, but if we do a better job of getting out on the shooters and forcing them to put the ball on the floor we can force situations and things can start working out in our favor. Our stronghold on our defensive end is our 2-3 zone and we went to the 2-3 three times and they made four threes.”
On the team’s intensity late in the game:
“I’m just glad we kept fighting hard. We were down 30 and we lose by 12, so I’m just proud of my guys that they work as hard as they can.”
On the condition of his knee:
“It’s sore, but it’s something I’m going to have to deal with the rest of the year. I don’t want to take any more games off. Whatever the pain is, I’m just going to have to play through it.”
Freshman guard Paul Harris:
On the struggles of his teammates:
“We just kept fighting and fighting, but some of our guys had tough nights that we usually depend upon. (Eric) Devendorf was scoreless. We really need him, and it shows when we lose.”
