Syracuse vs. West Virginia

West Virginia Head Coach Rich Rodriguez
“I’m very pleased with the win. The guys had a good week of practice. The offense came out strong and the big point in the game was where we got the turnover at the opening and then immediately got it in for the score.”
On Pat White:
“Pat (White) has a strained muscle. We think he will be fine with the open week. I thought Pat played really well.”
On his 100th win:
“That’s nice, but I haven’t played a single play in any of those games.”
On the defense:
“We didn’t get any sacks, but were able to get in his face and force some throws. We also were fortunate that a potential touchdown pass was dropped.”
“We were doing some things differently defensively, especially when they came out and were able to run the ball with some initial success.”
On Owen Schmitt:
“Owen has tailback skills and he is obviously hard to bring down when he gets going. They were playing us a certain way that gave us a chance to get it to him. They were trying to make sure that Pat (White) didn’t hurt them on the perimeter and that opened things up for Owen.”
On coming back after the loss to South Florida:
“Losing takes some confidence from you, and it’s important to get it back by making plays. I felt that we had it back at halftime just by hearing the guys talk.”
On Steve Slaton:
“Steve can help us a lot of different ways, but he’s so unselfish and you take what the defense gives you.”
