Syracuse Player Postgame Quotes
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Saint Joseph’s
Syracuse, NY – Carrier Dome
Donte Greene, Fr., F
On Saint Joseph’s tough defense:
“They were definitely on us. Other people had to pull out other things unlike in the first couple of games, like myself. I tried to play more inside tonight instead of settling for the three-point shot. I still got a couple off but I just wanted to get inside, get some and-ones and get the other team in foul trouble.”
On Jonny Flynn’s last shot:
“Oh, I knew he was going to hit it as soon as he shot it. The play was supposed to be for Eric Devendorf. He was supposed to come off the screen and give it to me, and if I had an open shot I’d take it or give it to Eric. But, Jonny was open and I knew he was going to take the shot. So, I just tried to go and get the rebound.”
Jonny Flynn, Fr., G
On a big win:
“It’s huge for us to get a win over a great Saint Joseph’s team that we’ll probably see in the NCAA Tournament. It’s good for us to get a big win over a great team early.”
On his confidence to take the last shot:
“When you’re a shooter, you just stay with it. You have to have confidence all game. Even if you make the first 13 or miss the first 13, you always think the next one is going in. When I came off a great screen from Arinze, Ahmad Nivins backed off and my eyes just lit up. I was shocked he was really going give me that shot. So, I shot it and I knew it was going in.”
On the overall team ball movement:
“That is what makes good teams great, being unselfish and making the extra pass. Players not caring about their stats and just making the extra pass trying to get a bucket. Arinze played good down low and Paul Harris made a lot of extra passes to Arinze, who played strong for us.”
Paul Harris, So., F
On the difference in his play between freshman and sophomore year:
“I think I’m more confident. Coach plays me more and has more confidence in me, but I want him to have more and I think that will come as the season progresses.
On his improved jumpshot:
“I just try to shoot the open shots. Sometimes, I force it in the beginning and coach kind of sat me down and told me that I have to go in there and make a good play. I think I hit Eric Devendorf for an assist. That kind of got me going and I got a couple of easy lay-ups.”
Arinze Onuaku, Jr., C
On the rebounding in this game:
“Coach has been harping on that since the beginning of the year. Everybody is talking about how we are undersized and I’m the only center. So, we just want to take pride with rebounding. Once we get it, we want to get out and go. Our guards and big guys can get out and run and that’s what we want to do.”
