Syracuse Player Quotes
Syracuse vs. Colgate
December 18, 2007
Syracuse, N.Y. - Carrier Dome
Donte Greene, Fr., F
On playing without junior guard Eric Devendorf:
“I thought it was okay. We didn’t slack off. Eric is definitely going to be a big loss, especially for his scoring. We just go out there and try and pickup myself and Jonny [Flynn]. Scoop [Jardine] came out and gave us good numbers and good minutes. It’s just defense and we have to try and get ready for the BIG EAST without him.”
On his teammates contributing in Devendorf’s place:
“It was good. Scoop definitely came in and gave us a defensive presence. Paul [Harris] slid up to the two for a little bit. Kristof [Ongenaet] was in the four and I was in the three. We were just trying new looks without Eric.”
On the game:
“We played well. The defensive presence was still there. Scoop came in and gave us good minutes. Paul slid up to the key and did a good job tonight – rebounded. We all did a good job tonight.”
Scoop Jardine, Fr., G
On preparing for his first start:
“Getting ready for games, doing homework on our opponent and keeping my body right.”
On being anxious to get into the game:
“I just have to be ready. I can’t run away from it.”
On Devendorf:
“Eric has been very supportive of me since I got here. Even when I get in the game, he gives me some confidence.”
Jonny Flynn, Fr., G
On the team’s performance:
“We played really well. The defense was good. One thing we did on defense that we usually don’t do was trapping in the corners. We were trapping and causing a little havoc. Everybody was getting hectic – that helter-skeltor game – it benefits us greatly. We just played great on the defensive end and a lot of good things off the bench for us.”
On the defense having to get better:
“Definitely, the defense always has to get better. Eric Devendorf has been playing in the zone for three years, so he knows certain spots – he was one of our better defenders. We just have to pick up on the missing parts and we should be good to go.”
On if this win does anything for the team since it was the first game without Devendorf:
“It definitely does a lot, especially for guys coming off the bench. Sean Williams got some time even though he never really played big time minutes. He got in with eight minutes left in the game. It gives confidence in those guys when we are in close games, big games or conference games. They can come out and produce on a high level. Donte played his game and created some scoring. He’s tremendous when playing his game. Paul Harris played a great game. So there were a lot of good things that came out of this game.”
