May 14
The Syracuse University softball team scored only one run and left ten runners on base and the University of Louisville scored three unearned runs as the Cardinals defeated the Orange, 5-1, on May 10 in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship. The loss ends SU season with a 21-31 overall record. Senior Erin Gray’s solo home run in the second inning was Syracuse’s lone score. Gray ended the season on a career-best 10 game hitting streak. Junior Rachel Tilford and sophomore Lindsay Wasek both went 2-for-3.
Sophomore first baseman Heather Kim was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine/CoSida Academic All-District First Team softball squad. Kim is now eligible for Academic All-American Honors. She is the 11th Orange player to earn academic all-district honors in the last six seasons. Kim is also SU’s fifth first-team pick in that span. Kim compiled a .329 batting average (19-58) with 13 runs, 11 RBI, three doubles and two home runs during BIG EAST play this season. Overall, Kim is first on the team with a .436 on-base percentage, 50 hits and 26 walks. Her .333 batting average and six home runs rank second and her 28 runs, 28 RBI and five stolen bases are third on the team. She currently has a 3.96 grade-point-average in psychology and political science.
Junior utility player Chanel Roehner was selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team on Wednesday. Roehner, who was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, becomes the 13th SU softball player to earn all-region honors. In league play, Roehner finished second the BIG EAST with a .463 batting average (25-54). She also ranked in the top-seven in slugging percentage (.704), on-base percentage (.491), hits (25) and doubles (7). The junior also pitched 129.0 innings for the Orange, striking out 80 batters while compiling 12 victories and two saves. Overall, Roehner led SU with a .336 batting average. She scored 27 runs and drove in 29 more. She ended the year with a .537 slugging percentage and had 12 doubles and six home runs.
The 2007 Syracuse University Soladay winner, Gray, etched her name on eleven Syracuse career lists including 174 games played, 166 games started, 484 at-bats, 62 runs scored, 115 hits and 53 runs batted in. She will also finish in the top-ten in multi-RBI games, total bases, sacrifice flys, assists and double plays. The Katy, Texas had her best season in an Orange uniform setting personal bests in seven categories. Her .331 batting average, 49 hits, 25 runs scored, 10 doubles, six home runs 79 total bases and .534 slugging percentage are all bests for the four-time letterwinner. Gray also excelled off the field. She was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll six times during her career and was honored as a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2004, 2005 and 2006. She will graduate with a bachelor’s of science in psychology.

The Syracuse University softball team concluded its 2007 regular season with a 4-4 week to improve to 21-30 overall and 9-11 in the BIG EAST Conference. The Orange swept Niagara 6-4 and 8-7 on Wednesday and spilt with both league foes Rutgers and Villanova on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Syracuse University softball team concluded its 2007 regular season with a 4-4 week to improve to 21-30 overall and 9-11 in the BIG EAST Conference. The Orange swept Niagara 6-4 and 8-7 on Wednesday and spilt with both league foes Rutgers and Villanova on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
SU crushed six home runs against the Purple Eagles. Junior Rachel Tilford hammered two in game two, and senior Erin Gray, junior Chanel Roehner and sophomores Lindsay Wasek and Heather Kim all blasted one apiece.
Freshman RHP Brittany Gardner earned the win in game one against the Scarlet Knights, after she pitched a solid complete game, giving up just four hits and one earned run, while Tilford hit a three-run homer and Roehner hit a two-run homer to give Syracuse a 5-2 in game one.
Despite a home run by Kim, Roehner, who pitched the second game of the doubleheader, gave up two runs in the third and struggled in the sixth giving up back-to-back home runs, which was the difference in the 5-2 loss for the Orange.
SU split its doubleheader against Villanova in the regular season finale. Syracuse won in the bottom of the tenth in the first game on a two RBI single by sophomore CF Tonye McCorkle, ending the game with a final score of 10-9. Gardner got the start on the mound for both games of the doubleheader. She pitched 5.1 innings in the first game, but it was Roehner was the pitcher of record for the first game, taking the win after pitching 2.2 innings of relief. A rough sixth inning for the Orange, gave the second game away to Wildcats, crediting Gardner with the loss in the second game.
Syracuse University softball junior OF Rachel Tilford was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her performance last week. The junior helped the Orange to a 4-2 week, including two BIG EAST victories and a sweep of Niagara. She ended the week with a .364 batting average going 8-for-22 with nine RBI, seven runs, four home runs and two doubles. Tilford also earned BIG EAST Accolades on April 9. She recorded both of her doubles in SU’s first game of the week in the Orange’s 6-4 victory in game one at Niagara. The junior added two home runs and three RBI in the 8-7 game-two win. Tilford remained hot during the weekend, belting in three more RBI and hitting another home run in Syracuse’s 5-2 victory in game one against Rutgers.
She concluded the week with a two-out three-run tying home run in the bottom of the seventh in SU’s 10-9 (10) game one win versus Villanova.
Roehner ended the regular season as SU’s leader in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, doubles and total bases.
Syracuse has a week off for finals before traveling to South Bend, Ind. for the BIG EAST Championship on May 10.

The Syracuse University softball went 2-2 last week, splitting with St. John’s and Seton Hall. SU split its doubleheader with St. John’s, taking game one 3-2 (8), before losing game two 12-11 (10). The Orange took one of two from Seton Hall on Sunday, winning game two, 4-2 after losing the first contest, 3-2. SU is now 17-28 overall and 7-9 in the BIG EAST.
Freshman RHP Brittany Gardner picked up the win for SU, going 7.2 innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits with four stikeouts. Junior RHP Chanel Roehner recorded her second save of the season, getting the last out of the game.

Roehner ended the week with a .636 batting average, going 7-for-11 with five runs scored, four RBI, three doubles, one home run and one base-on-balls. She went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored, one double and a walk in SU's first win of the week at St. John's. The junior capped off the day with a 3-for-4 performance, including two runs scored, one RBI and one double. She went 2-for-2 with a one run scored, one RBI, one double and one home run in the first game at Seton Hall. Roehner added a run scored in the Orange's victory in game two at SHU.
Roehner now leads the Orange in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, doubles and total bases.

The Syracuse University softball team went 1-2 last week, winning at Buffalo 6-5, before losing twice to Louisville, ending a season-high five-game winning streak and putting SU at 15-26 overall and 5-7 in the BIG EAST.
At Buffalo the Orange pounded out six runs off 11 hits and freshman RHP Brittany Gardner earned her eighth victory of the year, allowing five runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Game two of the schedule doubleheader was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Despite an outstanding relief appearance by LHP Keri Casas, who went 2.2 innings of solid relief giving up just two hits in the first game of the double against Louisville and a solid performance by Gardner, the Orange lost 7-2 in the first game, and 6-2 in the second. Homeruns made the difference in the first game, as the Cardinals hit two blasts for three RBI. The Orange had tied the second game in the bottom of the second, but was unable to pull it out, as Gardner gave up four runs in the top of the seventh.
Syracuse is hitting .279 as a team and is led offensively by sophomore Tonye McCorkle who is hitting .331 with 39 hits, 24 runs, 13 RBI, 11 stolen bases, five doubles and one triple. Freshman Ev Anderson is batting .330 with 36 hits, 25 runs, seven stolen bases, five RBI and two doubles. Senior Erin Gray is hitting .321 with 36 hits, 18 runs, 13 RBI, eight doubles and three home runs. The Orange look to freshman Brittany Gardner (8-19, 5.48 ERA/144.1 IP) and junior Chanel Roehner (7-7, 4.73 ERA/105.0 IP) in the circle.

The Syracuse University softball team went 4-0 last week to improve to 14-24 overall and 5-5 in the BIG EAST Conference.
SU swept a doubleheader from visiting in-state rival Binghamton, winning the first game, 12-0, in five innings, and the second game, 4-0, in seven. The Orange held the Bearcats to just three hits in the twinbill, while collecting 17 of its own.
Syracuse received a pair of gems from its starting pitchers. Freshman Brittany Gardner hurled a one-hitter in game one, collecting three strike outs and walking none in the shortened contest. The only hit Gardener allowed was a single in the second inning and she retired the final 10 batters of the game in order. Junior Chanel Roehner was equally as impressive in the game two, giving up two hits and striking out six in a complete game shutout.
Junior Rachel Tilford went 2-for-2 in the first game, including her first career grand slam in the third inning. She also had an RBI single to finish with five runs batted in. She was one of three Syracuse players with multiple RBI performances, joined by sophomores Tonye McCorkle and Heather Kim who each knocked in a pair. Four SU players scored two runs in the opener as well.
Tilford’s grand slam was the seventh in Syracuse softball history and the first since Dani Stuart hit one against Niagara on April 12, 2006.
The second game was highlighted by sophomore Lindsay Wasek’s first career home run. With the Orange already ahead 2-0, Wasek hit a line drive to right field in the fourth inning that bounced off the top of the wall and over. McCorkle drove in another run in the inning when her double plated freshman Ev Anderson to put the Orange ahead by the final margin.
The Orange swept Pittsburgh, 7-5 and 10-5, Junior Rachel Tilford ended the day with a .600 batting average, going a combined 3-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored. Junior Chanel Roehner went 4-for-8 (.500) with two RBI, three runs scored and a double and sophomore Lindsay Wasek hit the second home run of her career, in a three RBI performance.
In game one, Roehner went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored as Syracuse defeated Pittsburgh, 7-5, after holding leads of 2-0 and 6-3. Gardner improved to 7-18 on the season, allowing two earned runs off eight hits, while striking out eight in a complete seven innings of work.
Syracuse kept the pressure on and opened a 5-0 lead en route to a 10-5 victory in game two. Roehner improved to 7-6 on the year, allowing five earned runs off 11 hits, while striking out five in a complete seven innings of work.

The Syracuse University softball team (10-24, 3-5) lost a pair of BIG EAST games to No. 18/23 DePaul on Saturday. The Orange lost 8-0 in five innings in game one and 4-3 in game two. Senior Erin Gray recorded two hits, including SU’s lone hit in game one and all of the Orange’s three RBI in game two. Syracuse was defeated twice on Sunday by BIG EAST foe Notre Dame. The Orange lost 7-0 in game one and 10-2 in five innings in game two. Sophomore Keri Casas and sophomore Nicole Miller registered Syracuse’s two RBI on the day.
Gray had Syracuse’s best weekend offensively, ending the weekend with a .375 batting average, going a combined 3-for-8 with three RBI, one run scored and one double.
Casas played in all four games, getting a hit and a RBI in her only at bat. The sophomore also pitched 0.2 innings with one strikeout.
Sophomore Jorden Rosen saw action in two games, going 1-for-2 (.500) with one run scored and one double.
Junior RHP Chanel Roehner pitched a team-high 12.0 innings with six strikeouts.
Freshman Ev Anderson’s .379 batting average, .438 on-base percentage, 20 runs scored and 33 hits are team highs. Sophomore Heather Kim’s .490 slugging percentage, 47 totals bases and four home runs are team bests. Junior Rachel Tilford’s 20 RBI, seven doubles and four home runs are team highs.
Syracuse opens the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Binghamton on Tuesday, April 3 at Skytop Softball Stadium. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Syracuse University softball team (7-19) went 2-3 last weekend at the Stetson University Tournament in DeLand, Fla. The Orange defeated Elon, 4-3, on March 16 and Stetson, 4-1, on March 17.
Against the Phoenix, senior Erin Gray went 1-for-2 including a two-run home run that tied the game at 3-3. Sophomore Lindsay Wasek and junior Rachel Tilford recorded the other two RBI.
Junior RHP Chanel Roehner pitched a gem against the Hatters, only allowing one run on five hits, with five strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
Freshman Ev Anderson’s .429 batting average and .471 on-base percentage are both a team best. She is also first on the squad in runs scored (16) and hits (27). Tilford’s .541 slugging percentage is a team high, as is her 18 RBI, seven doubles, four home runs and 40 total bases. Sophomore Tonye McCorkle still leads the squad with 13 walks and nine stolen bases.
Syracuse opens BIG EAST Conference play next weekend with two doubleheaders at Providence on Saturday and at Connecticut on Sunday.

The Syracuse University softball team went 3-3 over the weekend, defeating Maine, 6-0, Appalachian State, 13-6 and Western Carolina, 11-3, in six innings.

Sophomore Heather Kim was named to this week’s BIG EAST honor roll for her performance during at the Florida State Invitational last weekend. Kim concluded tournament play with a .579 batting average going a combined 11-for-19 with three home runs, two doubles and nine RBI. She also earned all-tournament accolades for her efforts.
Freshman Ev Anderson had a big day on the FSU Invitational for SU, ending the day with a .714 batting average going 5-for-7 with two runs scored, a RBI and a stolen base.
The Orange offense, led by Kim and junior Rachel Tilford had a record setting day on the second day of the FSU Invitational. Kim concluded the day with a .636 batting average, going 7-for-11 with eight RBI and three home runs in the Orange’s three games and Tilford registered a school record six RBI in SU’s 11-3 victory against Western Carolina. Kim tallied four RBI and Syracuse pounded out a school record 18 hits in a 13-6 win versus Appalachian State.
Anderson leads Syracuse with a .455 batting average, a .510 on-base percentage and 13 runs scored. She is third in hits with 20, tied for fourth with five walks and her .510 slugging percentage is fifth on the team. Tilford’s .586 slugging percentage is first on the squad, as is her five doubles, four home runs and 34 total bases. She is also second on the team with 12 runs scored and 12 RBI. Senior Erin Gray’s 22 hits are a team best, as is Kim’s 13 RBI and sophomore Tonye McCorkle’s 12 walks.
March 5
The Orange softball team split a pair of games on the first day of the Texas A&M Invitational. The Orange won its first game of the day, defeating McNeese State, 9-2, before losing a hard-fought game with No. 4/5 Texas A&M, 2-1. Freshman Brittany Gardner had a strong day, allowing only two earned runs in 13 innings.
After splitting its first two games at the Texas A&M Invitational, the Syracuse softball team lost two games on Saturday. Illinois shutout the Orange in its first game of the day, 7-0, and McNeese State topped the Orange, 12-6. Chanel Roehner had three hits and four RBI in the two games and pitched in both.
Sophomore Amy Kelley led the SU with a school-record tying five RBI and the Syracuse University softball team scored five runs in the first inning but relinquished 12 to the University of Illinois in a 12-7 setback in the final game of the Texas A&M Invitational on Sun., March 4 in College Station, Texas.

Junior Rachel Tilford leads the Orange with a .523 slugging percentage, total bases with 24, doubles with seven, runs scored with eight and home runs with three. Junior Chanel Roehner also has a team-high 23 total bases and three home runs. She also has a team-best tying six RBI. Kelley also had six RBI. Senior Erin Gray is tied with Tilford with with runs scored. The senior is also first in hits with 13.Tonye McCorkle leads SU with a .489on-base percentage, walks with 11 and stolen bases with five.
February 26
Senior Erin Gray was named to the adidas-Golden Panther Invitational All-Tournament Team. Gray batted .400 over the weekend, going 6-for-15 with two runs scored and a perfect fielding percentage, recording five putouts and 10 assists.
Junior Chanel Roehner allowed five runs, two earned, on five hits and struck out two against Texas State on Saturday. She also had a strong contribution at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run, an RBI and a stolen base.
SU defeated the Marist Red Foxes on Friday, 5-2, in extra innings for SU’s first win of the young season. Freshman pitcher Brittany Gardner struck out nine Red Foxes to earn her first career win.
The victory also marked Leigh Ross’ first as head coach of the Orange.

Tonye McCorkle leads SU with a .500 on-base percentage, walks with seven, runs scored and stolen bases with five.
February 12
Sophomore Tonye McCorkle went 4-for-9 with two runs and three stolen bases at the season-opening Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. She went 2-for-3 with one run against No. 3/3 UCLA in the season opener.
Junior Rachel Tilford also had a multi-hit game over the weekend versus RV/- Long Beach State. She went 2-for-2, including a solo home run and a single down the left-field line.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Gardner struck out a team-best 10.
Sophomore Heather Kim recorded a team-high two RBI.
The Orange is 0-5 after losing all of its games at the Kajikawa Classic to open the season. It is the third time in school history SU has started the year 0-5 (2006 & 2004). The Orange has never lost six consecutive games to begin a season.
