Rob Kavovit was a senior co-captain and a three-time All-American for the Orange. His achievements on the field place him in SU’s record books. He is tied for third for the most goals (11 in 1996) and most assists (10 in 1995) in an NCAA Tournament. Also in 1995, Rob scored 18 points, tying him for fourth for most points in a tournament. He ranks third on SU’s career NCAA points list with 47; he is tied for fourth for most career NCAA goals (27) and for fifth for most career NCAA assists (20).
Rob scored 246 points in his career at Syracuse, ranking him ninth on Syracuse’s all-time list. He is also tied for 15th and 23rd on the single season points list for 77 in 1997 and 70 in 1996. In his freshman campaign, he scored 36 points, placing him 12th among all-time first-year players.
Overall, Rob scored 125 goals, ranking him 12th all-time and in 1996, he scored 42, tying for the 21st stop on the single season goals list. He also ranks seventh on SU’s career assists list with 121. He is tied for 17th and 22nd on the single season assists list with 37 in 1997 and 34 in 1995.
Senior Year (1997): Co-captain…named to the All-American second team…started and played in all 14 games…second on team in both goals and assists, with 40 and 37, respectively...scored a total of 77 points and recovered 25 groundballs…tied career-high with six goals in the win over Virginia…scored three or more goals in eight games …had four four-goal, four-assist games throughout the season…scored four goals in the win over Loyola in the NCAA Quarterfinal game…had a four-goal, four-assist effort in the 18-17 loss to Maryland in the semifinals…named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team…played for the North in the North/South Collegiate All-Star Game.
Junior Year (1996): Started all 15 games…team’s leading scorer and assist man…named to the All-American third team…tied career-high with six goals in the win over North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament…scored in every game and had a goal in 14 games, all multi-goal games…five goals in the win over Georgetown and the game-winning goal against UMass…had five assists in the win over Hobart.
Sophomore Year (1995): Received All-American honorable mention…made NCAA All-Tournament team, leading SU with seven goals and seven assists in the Final Four…had three goals in the Georgetown, Towson and UVA semifinal game and then ended the season with a four-goal, three-assist effort in the title game…second on the team in scoring, with 29 goals and a team-high 34 assists…started all 15 games and scored in all except for the first Virginia game…had a season-high seven assists in the win over Yale.
Freshman Year (1994): Team’s top assist man, with 22, despite not getting his first assist until the fourth game of the season…scored 14 goals and was the SU’s seventh-leading scorer, with 36 points…had five assists in the win over Michigan State…scored three goals in the Michigan State and Rutgers games.
High School: Attended Yorktown Heights High School…three-sport star in lacrosse, basketball and soccer…high school All-American…teamed on attack with Paul Carcaterra on the state championship Yorktown team…career 310 points on 157 goals and 153 assists…third-leading career point scorer in Yorktown history behind former SU standouts Tim and Tom Nelson…team captain senior year…1993 ConEd Scholar-Athlete winner…earned All-Section, All-League and All-County honors…played on three-time state championship team…captain of the 1992 gold medal-winning Hudson Valley Empire State Games team, silver medal winner in 1991.
