Chad Smith was a two-time All-American in his three years at Syracuse. As a senior, he was an Orange captain and helped lead the team to an NCAA National Championship with a win over Maryland in 1995. His first year on the team, after transferring from Army, was in 1993, when the Orange defeated North Carolina by one for the championship.
Senior Year (1995): One of four captains…started in all 15 games…All-American third team…scored three goals and had one assist…tied for second on the team in groundballs with 82…scored a goal in the quarterfinal win over Princeton…played for the North in the North/South Collegiate All-Star Game.
Junior Year (1994): Scored seven goals on the season…was tied for second on the team in groundballs with 63…All-Tournament at the Fleet Invitational…All-American third team…started every game.
Sophomore Year (1993): Scored six points on five goals and one assist…had two goals against UMass for SU personal best in goals and points…collected an assist against Brown…picked up 38 groundballs.
At Army (1993): Patriot League Rookie of the Year as a freshman…played in all 14 games for the Cadets, starting 10…picked up 41 groundballs…had one assist on the season.
High School: Attended Baldwin High School….All-American…All-County as a junior and team captain as a senior for Coach James Kaspar…two-time team MVP.
Personal: Son of David and Maria Smith…born on June 6, 1973 in Mineola, N.Y. … second youngest of five brothers…brother played collegiate lacrosse at Roanoke College…played on the gold-winning USA team in the 1992 19-and-under Junior World Games with teammates Ric Beardsley and Roy Cosley…majored in history.
