Syracuse Player Quotes
Syracuse vs. South Alabama
March 14, 2007
Carrier Dome-Syracuse, N.Y.
Senior forward Demetris Nichols
On the crowd of 16,000-plus:
“Wow. The crowd was great tonight. I know I really appreciated it because when we came out they were up just like any other game. They didn’t have to come out tonight, but they did, and they supported us. I hope it’s like that again next game.”
Sophomore guard Eric Devendorf:
On his performance:
“Early on I tried to get in the lane and penetrate. Fortunately my shots started fallin’ and that opened up my gettin’ to the basket game. In the second half, I just tried to create scoring opportunities. It worked out and we got the win.”
On South Alabama switching defenses:
“It’s important to recognize it. They played a lot of man on us and switched to zone every once in a while. Myself and D-Nic (Demetris Nichols) wanted try a little pick n’ roll and the first time they didn’t switch on it and we got an easy basket. Then they adjusted and I had a bigger man on me so I tried to penetrate and use my speed.”
Freshman guard Paul Harris
On not giving up after falling behind:
“We played with a lot of pride and a lot of credit goes to the fans, too. They were chanting ‘Lets go Orange’ and they were cheering us on. It just shows the support Syracuse has.”
On the competition in the NIT:
“You can’t overlook anyone. You can never do that. All these teams are good basketball teams.”
On playing another game at home:
“I hope the fans come out again. To all the fans: ‘Come out again.’ We are going to try to put on another show.”
