Orange Competes at Eastern Sprints
Three Syracuse boats qualified for the grand finals and earned top-five finishes at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday. Syracuse’s varsity four and novice eight boats both earned spots in the grand final. The varsity four crew placed fifth, recording a time of 8:03.017 and the BIG EAST Champion novice eight boat placed fourth, posting a mark of 7:13.771. SU’s novice four boat also competed in the grand final, recording a time of 8:10.124. Last season, only SU’s novice four crew qualified for the grand final.
Varisty 8 and Second Varsity 8 Boats Reach Petite Finals
The varsity eight placed fifth in the petite final, recording a time of 7:04.436 while the second varsity 8 finished third in the petite final with a time of 7:10.049.
April 30
Orange Finish Third at BIG EAST Championship
The Syracuse women’s rowing team totaled 101 points at the BIG EAST Rowing Championship, the second-most points at the conference’s championship. Notre Dame won its fourth-consecutive title with 118 points and the Orange tied with Louisville for second with 101 points. The Cardinals won the second-place tiebreaker by finishing higher in the varsity 8 race.
Orange Gain More Points Than Any Other Team
Syracuse's 101-point total was a 25-point improvement from last season's total. The Orange improved by more points than any other team in the conference. The second-highest improvement rate was eight points by West Virginia.
Novice 8 Takes Home Title
The Syracuse novice 8 crew won the BIG EAST title for the second-consecutive season, recoring a time of 6:52.15. Notre Dame placed second in the event, recording a mark of 6:58.14.
April 16
Orange Regains Kittell Cup
Syracuse took control of the Kittell Cup for the third time in the five-year history of the trophy. Syracuse defeated Boston University during its annual race to reclaim the cup. SU's varsity 8 recorded a mark of 6:52.1, edging Boston Universtiy by nine-tenths of a second.
Additional Highlights From the Charles River Classic
Syracuse took home many other good notes from the Charles River Classic. SU's varsity 4 crew emerged victorious on Saturday against Northeastern and on Sunday against both Texas and Boston University. SU's novice 8 boat wnt 4-1 over the weekend, defeating Radcliffe, Northeastern, Texas and Boston University.
April 9
Orange Competes for Orange Challenge Cup
The Syracuse second varsity 4 emerged victorious at the Orange Challenge Cup, hosted by Penn. The second varsity 4 won its race by 3.1 seconds against the host Quakers. In the varsity 8 race, Northeastern, who is receiving votes in the latest national poll, won with a time of 6:32.4. Syracuse finished 7.5 seconds behind the Huskies, shaving nearly seven seconds off last season’s deficit in the race.
In other races, Syracuse placed second behind Penn in the second varsity 8, novice 8 and novice 4. The Orange finished third in the varsity 4, behind Northeastern and Penn.
April 2
Orange Opens Season at Cornell
The Syracuse women’s rowing team opened its spring season at the Cayuga Cup with Cornell and Yale. The Orange consistently finished ahead of the Big Red and hung tough with the Yale crews.
March 19
Spring Break in Tennessee
The Orange opened its 2007 spring schedule by traveling to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for its annual spring break trip. Oak Ridge is also the host site for the 2007 NCAA Championship.
Dominating in Scrimmage
As part of its trip, the Orange scrimmaged Buffalo and won each event it entered. The varsity eight won two 2k races by more than 12 seconds. In addition, the second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity/novice four combo also won two races.
