John Echeandia Font
2004 Letterwinner of Distinction
A two-time lacrosse All-American, John Echeandia Font graduated in 1953. During his senior season, Font was named team captain and was awarded the Laurie Cox Trophy for being the Most Valuable Player.
Font earned his bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology in 1953 and his master’s in the same field in 1955. In November of 1954, Font entered the military and in January of 1955, he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged in January of 1958. In the Fall of 1960, Font returned to SU as an assistant professor of speech pathology and audiology. He was also named director of clinical practicum for undergraduate and graduate majors in speech pathology. In 1963, Font left
In 1998, the John Echeandia Font Lacrosse Scholarship, which helps support a lacrosse player who is in need of financial assistance, was established. Font recently became a member of the Society of Fellows, Chancellor’s Council, The Founders Fund, Athletic Advisory Board and the Varsity Club.
