2004 Letterwinner of Distinction

     A member of 1947 men’s soccer team, Willard Fichtel earned his degree in wood utilization in 1948. During his collegiate career, Fichtel was active in many clubs, including the Outing Club, Paul Bunyan Society, Robin Hood Honor Society and R.O.T.C.

     Upon his graduation, Fichtel immediately associated himself in the furniture industry. He started as Quality Control Supervisor at Union National Inc. in Jamestown, N.Y. In the following years, he became Plant Manager and Vice President of Manufacturing for different companies. In 1980, Fichtel became president and owner of Andersson Woodturning, Inc. in Gardner, Mass. After more than 40 years of service within the furniture industry, Fichtel retired in 1991. He is a Varsity Club lifetime member.
