1999 Letterwinner of Distinction
In 1967 Gary MacLachlan received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in recreation and physical education. In 1992 he received a Master of Arts degree in public administration fromSyracuse University ’s Maxwell School . MacLachlan earned a varsity letter as a member of the crew team from 1963 – 67. As a freshman in 1964, he made the varsity team for the American Henley Regatta in Philadelphia , and in 1967 he was named captain of the crew team. MacLachlan also lettered in wrestling during the 1966 – 67 season. Since his graduation from SU, MacLachlan has been a member of the Alumni Rowing Association and held the position of president from 1975 – 77. He is an active member of the Varsity Club since 1967 and served on the board from 1975 – 77. MacLachlan has been an annual contributor to the general athletic fund, Stickmen's Fund, Orange Plus and the rowing fund. Presently, he is the Central Region Director of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation. He is also the executive director of the Empire State Senior Games, a position he has held since 1995. MacLachlan has been a Dewitt Volunteer Fireman and is on the Executive Committee of the Project Children, Inc.
