An officer in Delta Upsilon Fraternity, Steve Nathan was active in Hillel, the Goon Squad of the Watson Dorm Council. He was a participant in the Ford Foundation Project I, co-chair of Winter Weekend and a volunteer at the Boys Club of Syracuse.
Steve was on active duty in the U.S Army from 1965-68 and was promoted to captain. From 1968 to 1989, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve retiring as a lieutenant colonel. During his military career, he received several medals for achievement and meritorious service.
Joining Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York in 1968, Steve advanced through the corporate ranks to vice president and was recognized for his expertise in human resource management. He retired from MONY after 21 years of service. From 1990 to 1994, he was director of human resources and an internal consultant with the American Red Cross Blood Services. He spent a year with the national human resource consulting firm Drake Beam Morin before accepting the position of director of human resources at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1995.
Steve has devoted much time and effort to the Rescu Mission, Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America and YMCA. He is currently a corporate board member and a member of the Human Resources Committee for the Central New York United Way. Steve has coached youth teams in Pop Warner football, Little League, softball, soccer, basketball and lacrosse.
A member of the Thursday Morning Roundtable, Steve has belonged to the National Parents Board and the Delta Upsilon Alumni Board. He has been a volunteer for numerous University events, including Parents Place, Lubin House’s 125th Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of Syracuse Football. A life member and vice president of the Varsity Club, Steve has conducted resume writing and job search workshops on behalf of the club for senior student-athletes. He has contributed to the Annual Fund, Roy Simmons Scholarship Fund, Ernie Davis Fund, Dave Bing Fund, Campaign for Syracuse, Society of Fellows and Founders’ Society.
