Jim Breuer was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity where he held the offices of treasurer and president. He received his bachelor of science degree from both the College of Environmental Science and Forestry and Syracuse University in 1972.
Starting as a project manager for his family’s business, Heuber-Breuer Construction Company, Jim was promoted to vice president and was elected president in 1980. Under his leadership, the company has constructed various landmarks throughout Central New York and a number of buildings on the SU campus, including the Barclay Law Library, Goldstein Student Center, the Place of Remembrance, Eggers Hall and the Coaches Office Building at Manley Field House.
Jim actively participates on the board of directors of the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and Syracuse Builder’s Exchange. He is a member of the General Building contractors of New York State, the Associated General Contractors of America, the Metropolitan Development Association of Central New York, the Syracuse Downtown Committee and the Building code Board of Appeals.
Jim has held offices, served on boards and given his support to the Elmcrest Children’s Center, Loretto Rest Foundation, St. Joseph’s Hospital Health center, Norstar Bank, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Central New York, Syracuse Stage, Onondaga Gold and county Club, United Way, Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital Foundation and Burnet Park Zoo.
Joining the varsity club and the Syracuse Alumni Rowing Association after graduation, Jim has remained active in both organizations for over 20 years. He was SARA president from 1982 to 1984 and was president of the Syracuse Rowing Association from 1984 to 1986. Jim served on the Syracuse University Alumni Association Board and was a member of the Athletic Policy Board. He belongs to the Society of Fellows. Jim contributed a racing shell to the SU men’s crew program which bears the name Breuer Family.
