Coach Boeheim Quotes
Syracuse vs. Villanova
January 19, 2008
Syracuse, N.Y. – Carrier Dome
Opening Statement:
“I thought the game really turned at the start of the second half. We didn’t get back a couple times and they got right back in it. Obviously, when we get in foul trouble with both Donte’ [Greene] and Arinze [Onuaku], being a big part of what we are trying to do on offense, it’s hard when we can’t overcome that like today. The effort was good, but we are at a fine line and we can’t afford losing guys. We need to avoid losing guys and there were a couple cheap fouls that we just can’t be committing. We have to learn from that.”
On Jonny Flynn being hurt:
“No, he’s alright as far as I know.”
On the fine line with young players:
“That is just stuff you have to learn. It is difficult and it takes time.”
On Jonny Flynn’s and play:
“He was good. Jonny and Scoop [Jardine] were both good. We just didn’t get anything from the front line guys that we would need to get.”
On Kristof Ongenaet’s play:
“He was good. He got on the boards and that gives us some energy. He struggles trying to score.”
On whether Villanova had better looks in the second half:
“I think they got too many second shots. They got three or four in transition right away when we didn’t get back. That was a big part of it.”
On his game plan against Scottie Reynolds:
“He is a very good player and he is going to make shots. You have to be aware where he is, but he is going to score points. He is just coming off two 25-point games. He had five or six there at the end from the free throw line when we had to foul. I was more concerned that they were getting stuff inside because we didn’t do as good a job there as we should have. Reynolds is going to score points.”
On whether he wanted to get the ball to Paul Harris more:
“We had the ball a lot and he had the ball a lot. His way to score is to drive and they are going to take that away. He is going to have trouble scoring in those situations.”
On Scoop Jardine’s play:
“He is trying to make something happen and that is part of the game. Ideally, he wouldn’t be in the position he is now, but we have no choice. He did a lot of good things today and some bad things.”
On preparing for Georgetown:
“It is going to be a tough physical game. They are one of the best teams in the country and it is going to be a tremendous challenge for us. We have one day to get ready for them.”
