Talk about the excitement of doing this again.
“Coming off of a great season last year I feel like we are motivated. Going through a great preseason and blending with the newcomers I think that we are ready to come out this year again.”
Talk to me about expectations for this year after doing so well last year. How do you follow it up, how do you do it again?
“We have a clean slate and coming back ready to work hard, I feel like we got as far as we did last year from being prepared by our coaching staff and the players executing and playing hard. If we come back this year and have that chip on our shoulder to get a little further than we did this year and get a little better like we have been doing in preseason I think that we can go further than last year.”
Does that motivate you guys, knowing that last year was a great year and put you on the map but it didn’t end the way
“Like coach said, we want a national championship and until we get there we are going to strive and we are going to work hard and come in day in and day out. That is our ultimate goal, a national championship and until we get that, we are going to work as hard as anyone else.”
You guys are openly talking about it most teams would shy from it. Where does that come from?
“We are a competitive team and as you can see we have a competitive coach and you know we are his players. To say we want anything less than that (a national championship) that would be a shortcoming. Everyone wants to win a national championship from the best teams to the worst teams, you want to go all the way and I feel like to be the best, you have got to want the best.”
Talk to me about Juanita, Troya and Tyler, what will they do for the team?
“They are great players. They bring something a little bit different coming. Like last year I felt that we just had a lot of different puzzle pieces and we just have to put them together. Like with what coach says, Juanita, she is a great player. Troya, we put her at many different positions. I think there are mismatches all over the floor. Tyler Ash she is great, long and athletic. I feel like they compliment us well. So in preseason we just want to bring them along and get them acclimated with the group and I feel like we will go far this year especially with them.”
It looks like the sky is the limit for you guys, having not lost that many players and you having one year under your belt and the rest of the players that came in with you.
“I feel like with the new players. We just got even better. You know Vaida, Fantasia, Sarah they were great players and they helped the program a lot but I think we are just a little different now. I think it’s going to be hard for other teams to prepare for us. We are athletic, we’re long and we are just going to come out and play hard. When you have a team no matter how good they are and they play hard, they are hard to stop.”
Coach said you need to take more shots, how do you plan to do that?
“I guess just be a little bit more aggressive and take more shots. It doesn’t mean take bad shots it obviously means take good shots. You know, just hopefully run his offense and try to get open as much as possible and knock them down.”
