Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Nicole Michael, Junior Forward:
On whether it was her best game of the year:
“Unfortunately, yeah it is. I feel I’m a good play and I feel I could do better sometimes.”
On what it felt like to get off to a good start in the game:
“It feels great to come out and be intense and just play our game.”
On whether this was the team’s best game so far:
“Yeah, we looked comfortable with each other. Everyone is scoring and everyone’s getting good minutes. I feel the team is doing great.”
On having Lynnae Lampkins on the floor:
“She’s a good point guard. For a freshman, she’s fast. She looked comfortable already. It was amazing having her come in and play her first game. She had her first practice yesterday. She came in and hardly had turnovers and she played well. She’s a good addition to our team. She’ll make us play faster. “
On whether they are where they need to be for BIG EAST play:
“The BIG EAST is the toughest conference in the country. I don’t feel we are completely where we should be to play in the BIG EAST, but we’ll get there. We’re working hard in practice, so I think we’ll get there.”
Lynnae Lampkins, Freshman Guard
On how she stayed in shape before arriving at Syracuse:
“Me and my father worked out every day.”
On how she played today:
“I feel I missed out on a couple, but I’ll be in practice all week. I’ll catch up.”
On whether she was nervous:
“In the beginning I was, but as the game went on I lost it.”
On whether she was surprised on being put in control of the offense:
“At first he told me that he was going to play me early. I was expecting it.”
On her expectations:
“I just wanted to go out in play. I didn’t want to turn the ball over too much.”
On what it was like to get out and play:
“It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it.”
On what Coach Hillsman and she were working on prior to the game:
“We were working on shots in the positions I was going to be in on the floor.”
On what she can bring to the team:
“I think I bring speed and quickness.”
Juanita Ward, Junior Forward:
On her play in the game:
“It was unbelievable. Lynnae [Lampkins] is a really good player. She pushed the offense made everything much better. She’s talented. She’s very quick and made us run the floor in transition. I have to thank my team though. Our team picked up a lot and we did well running the floor on transition. My team helped me get the open spots.”
On whether the team came together today:
“I think we did really good today. I think we are coming together. We’ve been together since day one, no one’s been sidetracked.”
On improving in rebounds:
“I have to hold me seals a little more. Making sure the girl doesn’t get around me and that I stay focused.”
On her and Nicole performance:
“Slinky [Nicole Michael] is a really good rebounder. She can jump and she’s long. She’s very versatile. Having her in the game with me is a very big presence. People have to decide whether they’re going to block out Slinky or myself. Having her or myself going for the rebound, you’re taking a chance.”
