In 1903, the football program got a financial boost, bringing its budget to $5,500, more than half of the athletic department's $10,000 expenditure that year. Parish succeeded Edwin R. Sweetland as coach for SU and rewarded the investment by leading the Orange to its fourth consecutive winning season. The campaign marked the second straight season that Syracuse opened the year with four straight shutouts.
