The Syracuse men’s crew team had one boat reach the grand final and won the second varsity petite final at the 2008 Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 18, in Worcester, Mass. Syracuse’s varsity eight finished sixth in the petite final and SU won the second varsity eight petite final. The Orange freshman eight reached the grand final and came in sixth place.
In the petite final, the varsity eight boat could not overcome Navy, Harvard and Cornell, losing by four seconds to claim fourth place with a time of 6:17.292.
The second varsity eight won the petite final for the second consecutive year with a time of 6:14.919.
The seeds held in the freshman eight as the top-six crews face off in the grand final. The freshman eight came into the grand final as the sixth-seed and finished in sixth place with a time of 6:10.812.

The Orange concludes the 2008 season at the I.R. A. Regatta, which begins June 5 in Camden, N.J.
May 12
The Syracuse men's crew closed out the dual race portion of its season by sweeping Dartmouth on Saturday, May 10 on the Connecticut River. The 10th-ranked varsity eight won the Packard Cup for the third consecutive year, completing a three-year sweep of all four cup races. Syracuse’s second varsity eight beat out the Big Green for its eighth victory of the season. SU’s freshman eight moved its record a perfect 10-0 with its victory. The second freshmen eight race of the day was made a four-race with the Orange finishing first and second.
The Orange varsity eight completed an undefeated cup season for the third-consecutive year by beating Dartmouth handily in the first race of the morning. The Orange came in with a time of 5:26.1, followed by the Big Green at 5:32.0. By winning the Packard Cup, Syracuse defended all four trophies that it won in 2005 and 2006. SU varsity eight finishes the dual race season with an 8-1 mark.
The Syracuse second eight edged past the Dartmouth second varsity in the day’s second race. SU clocked in with a time, 5:32.4, followed by Big Green (5:47.7). The Orange second varsity eight finishes the dual race season with an 8-1 mark.
The Orange freshman eight won its 10th race of the spring. Syracuse posted a time of 5:32.0, ahead of the Dartmouth freshman eight who finished at 5:38.6. SU freshman eight finishes the dual race season with a 10-0 mark.
The final race of the day, the second freshman eight race, was made a four-seat race. Syracuse finished first and second with times of 6:24.9 and 6:25.4, respectively. Dartmouth crossed the line at 6:51.2.
The Orange will next compete at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 18 in Worcester, Mass.
April 28
The 11th-ranked Syracuse men’s crew squad posted its 11th-consecutive cup victory. The Orange retained the Conlan Cup for the third straight season defeating No. 17 Boston University. No. 7 Columbia won the varsity eight race, but he Conlan Cup is a competition solely between BU and Syracuse. The Orange swept the remaining three races, winning the second varsity eight, freshman eight and second freshman eight race.
The varsity eight boat finished second at 5:45.71. The Lions posted a time of 5:42.34, while the Terriers finished in 5:56.91.
The second varsity eight boat defeated both BU and Columbia with a time of 5:55.1. The Terriers finished in 5:58.9 and the Lions in 6:27.5.
The freshman eight boat remained undefeated this spring (5-0) with a time of 5:54.63 Columbia was second at 6:03.08 and BU was third at 6:06.28.
The second freshman eight boat completed the day for the Orange with a win against BU, 6:13.3-6:27.0.

The Orange takes a week off for finals and returns to the water Saturday May 10 when it travels to Hanover, N.H. for the Packard Cup (Dartmouth).
April 21
The 12th-ranked Syracuse men’s crew team made history by winning the Goes Trophy for the third consecutive season, a feat that has never been accomplished by the Orange in the 54-year history of Goes Trophy. SU (5:40.9) defeated a Navy (5:42.4) squad with whom it shares its twelfth ranking, by 1.5 seconds and No. 10 Cornell (5:48.6) by 8.3 seconds. Syracuse also won the Stagg Cup for overall points.
The varsity eight boat won Syracuse’s 10th-consecutive cup racing dating back to the 2006 season.
Syracuse’s freshman eight boat was also victorious posting a time of 5:51.8. Navy was second at 5:54.9 and Cornell was third at 5:58.6.
The second varsity eight boat finished second behind Cornell, 5:52.5-5:56.4. Navy was third at 6:09.4
The second freshman race was restarted at 1,000 meters with crews in relative positions after stopping due to misadventure at bridge. Cornell won the race 3.6 seconds faster than SU’s freshman eight boat and 7.5 seconds quicker than Navy.
The Orange returns to the water on Saturday, April 26 at the James A. Ten Eyck Boathouse located at Onondaga Lake Outlet in Longbranch Park. SU puts its undefeated cup season on the line as it hosts Boston University for the Conlan Cup and Columbia.
April 14
The Syracuse men’s crew team won the Oliver T. Carr Bowl for recording the highest men’s point total with 114 at the 21st Annual George Washington Invitational. The Orange went a combined 11-1 on the weekend. Syracuse also retained the Ten Eyck Cup with its win against Rutgers.
The varsity eight boat went 2-0. SU posted a time of 5:36.9 against George Washington and Rutgers to retain the Ten Eyck Cup for the third consecutive season. SU also narrowly defeated Georgetown by 4.1 seconds. The Orange completed the 2,000-meter course in 5:53.6.
The second varsity eight boat went 3-0. The Orange defeated Virginia on Saturday with a time of 6:04.8. Syracuse navigated the 2,000-meter course in 5:44.0 to beat George Washington and defeated Georgetown and Michigan with a time of 5:47.1 on Sunday.
The freshman eight boat also went 3-0. The Orange defeated Virginia with a time of 6:04.0 on Saturday. SU posted a time of 5:46.6 in a victory versus George Washington and Rutgers and crossed the finish line in 5:44.5 in its win against Georgetown and Michigan.
The second freshman eight boat went 1-1. The Orange defeated Michigan with a time of 6:22.8 on Saturday and posted a time of 6:08.3 in its loss to Navy on Sunday.
The freshman four (A) boat defeated Georgetown and Michigan in its lone race with a time of 6:41.0.
The freshman four (B) boat finished the course in 6:54.4 in is victory versus Michigan.
The Orange returns to the water Saturday, April 19 as it goes against Navy and Cornell for the Goes Trophy.
April 7
The Syracuse men’s crew team won the Men’s Collegiate Varsity International Petite at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, April 6. The varsity eight boat finished the 2,000-meter course with a time of 5:53.80. The Orange was three seconds better than OSU and seven seconds faster than Penn, Purdue, UCSD and Colgate.
SU kicked off its 2008 spring season with a fourth –place showing in the Men’s Collegiate Varsity Invitational A Copley Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic Saturday, April 5. The varsity eight boat finished with 2,000-meter course with a time of 5:51.17.
Defending IRA champion Washington won the race with a time of 5:41.60. Harvard finished second with a time of 5:46.82 and defending Copley Cup champion Stanford finished third with a time of 5:48.07.

SU is back on the water Saturday, April 12 at the George Washington Invitational. The Orange will be competing for the Ten Eyck Cup against Rutgers.
