Akron Post Game Quotes
SYRACUSE VS. AKRON
SEPTEMBER 13, 2008
CARRIER DOME
Akron Coach J.D. Brookhart
“Syracuse got things rolling in the second half and got the momentum, but we knew that we were able to move the ball, so we knew we could come back.”
“Our quarterback played extremely well. The wide receivers stepped up from the first week, and the defense made some plays, though they have some work to do.”
On the defensive stops on short yardage in the fourth quarter
“We were down to our third nose tackle, but we had the defense to handle those inside runs.”
On the success on third downs
“It came down to our quarterback making the throws. The throws were right there. Dashan Miller made a couple of nice catches, but the throws were right there. The misdirection and draws are a big part of our offense.”
On the success running the ball
“When we fell behind Wisconsin, that became a bit of a throw festival. We try to be a balanced team, and take advantage of what is there.”
Quarterback Chris Jacquemain
On the good balance today being hard to stop:
"That’s what we were hoping for. We practiced hard in the off-season, in the summer and in camp. We wanted a balanced team and we had a good week of preparation and we executed well today."
On the key to having so many big third down conversions today:
"I think it was a little bit of everything. It was playing calling, execution, and a little bit of luck here and there. It went well for us today"
On the fourth quarter:
"They tied it up and we knew we needed to score. They moved the ball pretty well on our defense all day. Once they tied it up we knew we were going to have to march down the field. We ran well and then we had the passing touchdown, which was a good check by the offensive coordinator."
Running Back Dennis Kennedy
On the difference with their rushing game today:
"All the credit goes to the line. They worked their tails off. We are going to go back and watch film and our work from day today based on what we see on the film. The whole line team gave us a great push and I think the balance made it easier today, too."
On being happy with what they saw from Syracuse against Northwestern going into this game:
"Northwestern is a good team, but we knew coming in that the defense wasn't going to give us yards, we had to work for them."
On the momentum they gained from this win:
"We need the momentum going in conference play. It gave us some great momentum going into next week and we are very proud of this win."
Wide Receiver Andre Jones
On the game today:
"We knew coming in we were going to have to make big plays. When they scored, everybody kept their heads up."
