SYRACUSE STARTS THE SEASON IN PERFECT FORM
The Syracuse women's tennis team jumped out to a magnificent 3-0 start after the Orange downed its third consecutive opponent in as many with a 6-1 trouncing of Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at the Drumlins Tennis Center to close out a flawless three-game opening weekend to start off the 2009 season.
In SU's first two matches, Syracuse swept Colgate and Niagara, 7-0.
A couple new faces have quickly put their stamps on Syracuse tennis as freshmen Emily Harman and Alessondra Parra have made head coach Luke Jensen's starting lineup at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Harman crushed her first three challengers by counts of 6-1/6-2, 6-2/6-1 and 7-6 (3)/ 6-4. Parra pounced on her competitor with scores of 6-3/6-2, 6-1/6-0 and 6-2/6-3 to get off on the right foot in the young season.
At the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots, sophomore Simone Kalhorn and juniors Chelsea Jones and Ashley Spicer have raced out to respective 3-0 singles starts as well. Sophomore Christina Tan has assembled a 2-1 singles mark at the No. 2 slot.
The Orange has not lost a doubles match yet this season and look to keep the ball rolling as SU serves up BIG EAST play at Cincinnati in two weekends.
