Postgame Visiting Team Quotes

Akron Head Coach J.D. Brookhart
“Obviously, this was disappointing. There were missed opportunities, missed point opportunities. There were tough mistakes and tough lessons on a young quarterback. Syracuse came hard and brought a lot of different looks from them. From a communications point, their whole line, from the backs to the quarterbacks, they all played their share. They made us have to step up and make good plays and we didn’t make those. We didn’t handle third downs very well. A lot of credit goes to what the coaches have done here at Syracuse. Their kids are playing hard and they do a great job at run defense. We were not very effective in that area today and a lot of their opponents haven’t been.
“From here, we need to continue to rally the troops. We had guys who have been playing receiver who had to go jump in at corner. We had guys that hadn’t been taking reps with special teams that had to play there today. It was difficult, but this is a resilient group. We’re going to get back to MAC play and we have five more opportunities there.”
Dashan Miller, Sr., WR
On the game:
“We came out today well focused on the game. We had some mistakes that we had to overcome and at the end of the game, we came up short. We still have a good group of guys and now we have to focus on next week, getting prepared and getting a victory.”
Andre Jones, Sr., DB/WR
On the absence of Syracuse wide receiver Mike Williams:
“We had game planned for him a little bit but he wasn’t playing so we focus on the next guy.”
On the game:
“There were missed opportunities, whether it was turnovers or missed field goals. Those are plays you have to capitalize on and it is hard to win a game when you don’t. When we get turnovers we need to capitalize and put the ball in the end zone.”
On quarterback Patrick Nicely:
“Every day he gets better and better and matures. He is making his reads and making the shifts. Today was his first game so far so there will still be improvement, but he is always working hard, even after practice.”
