Senior running back Delone Carter gained 170 yards on 30 carries and three touchdowns, including a career-long 53-yard run in the fourth quarter … Carter’s yards and carriers were both career bests … His 1,380 career rushing yards rank 26th on SU’s all-time rushing yards gained list … He is the first Syracuse player to run for 150-plus yards since Curtis Brinkley rushed for 166 yards versus Louisville in 2008 … The senior is also the first SU player to carry the ball 30-plus times since Brinkley did so against Louisville in 2008.
Senior linebacker Derrell Smith is now tied for third all-time on Syracuse’s forced fumble list (since 1982) with six … He has five this season alone … The senior led the Orange with nine solo tackles, a career-high, including two sacks (13 yards), a tackle for loss (five yards) and one forced fumble.
Freshman linebacker Shamarko Thomas registered his first career tackle for loss (two yards) in the second quarter … The freshman ended the day with three tackles.
Sophomore defensive end Mikhail Marinovich registered his first sack (eight yards) of his career in the third quarter … Marinovich finished the day with two tackles.
Junior safety Max Suter recorded his first career forced fumble on a sack in the fourth quarter … Suter ended the game with seven tackles including a sack (nine yards).
Junior linebacker Doug Hogue recovered his first career fumble on Suter’s hit … Hogue finished the day with five tackles including a sack (12 yards) and three quarterback hurries.
The Orange defense held Akron to just 50 second-half yards … SU also held the Zips to zero rushing yards.
Sophomore wide receiver Marcus Sales had a career-best six catches for a career-high 61 yards and one touchdown.
Senior wide receiver Donte Davis recorded a career-best 14-yard rush in the third quarter … Davis finished the game with 26 yards on three carries, both career highs.
Sophomore running back/kick returner Mike Jones ranks fifth all-time on SU’s kickoffs returned list with 29 … He is also fourth on Syracuse’s kickoff return yard list with 704 … The sophomore also recorded a career-best 17-yard rush in the second quarter.
Akron’s kickoff return for a touchdown to begin the second half was the first for a Syracuse opponent since Rutgers ran one back in 2002, 81 games ago.
Freshman kicker Ryan Lichtenstein recorded a career-long 31-yard punt in the first quarter.
