Sophomore Van Chew made his first career start Saturday at wide receiver and sophomore running back Averin Collier started the first game of his Orange tenure in a two-back set with senior Delone Carter … Defensively, junior nose tackle Bud Tribbey started in place of Arthur Jones, who is out for the remainder of the year due to injury … It was Tribbey’s second start and his first since the Connecticut game in 2007 … Freshman Shamarko Thomas replaced the injured Max Suter as the team’s starting strong safety … It was Thomas’ fourth start of the season and he has earned starting nods at three different defensive positions in 2009 (linebacker, corner, strong safety) … In addition, freshman Phillip Thomas made his first career start at cornerback.
Graduate student Greg Paulus completed 12-of-16 passes for 89 yards … He now ranks sixth on the Orange’s single-season completion record list with 156.
Senior Delone Carter rushed for 129 yards at Louisville to go over the 1,700-yard mark for his career … Carter ranks 22nd on the school’s career rushing yardage list with 1,702 yards … It was his second consecutive 100-yard game, his third of the season, and the fifth of his career.
Sophomore Mike Jones returned three kicks for 75 yards … He is tied for second on SU’s season record list for most kickoffs returned (41) and second on the program’s season record list for kickoff return yards (987).
Freshman Phillip Thomas recorded his first career interception in the second quarter … It was the Orange’s sixth interception of the season and Thomas is the fifth different SU player with a pick on the year.
Sophomore defensive end Chandler Jones posted a personal-best 10 tackles, including a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack at Louisville.
Junior linebacker Doug Hogue registered a career-best two sacks at Louisville … He finished with eight total tackles.
Junior punter Rob Long booted a season-long 63-yard punt in the fourth quarter.
The Orange shut out Louisville in the first half and held the Cardinals to 39 yards of offense in the first two quarters … The last time the Orange took a shutout into the locker room at halftime was in 2005 versus Buffalo (24-0).
The Syracuse defense allowed 151 yards of total offense at Louisville Saturday, the lowest total for an Orange opponent this year.
