Boeheim Colgate Postgame
Coach Jim Boeheim Quotes
Syracuse vs. Colgate
November 30, 2009
Carrier Dome- Syracuse, N.Y.
Opening statement
“We shot the ball really well to start the game. It’s great when you shoot the ball like that. I think our defense was pretty good in the first half, we didn’t let them penetrate and they missed some shots. If they miss shots, it’s going to be pretty hard for them against us. But, we shot the ball well and we got everybody an opportunity to get out there and play and I think that’s a good thing. We start out with all those games early. We’ve got this game and then the game Saturday, then another break until we play Florida. We can have a good week of practice to get ready for Saturday and then have another few good days of practice to get ready for Florida.”
On the importance of getting players time off the bench
“Well, we want to get those guys in there -- that’s the value of these early games. We want them to show what they can do and what they can’t do. It’s important for them to see it on tape and hopefully that’s something they can learn from. Again, if they shoot the ball that well, it will be better. But I don’t think we’re going to see much more zone this season.”
On what the team was doing well
“Everybody was unselfish. We had 35 assists, which we rarely see.”
On Andy Rautins’ play
“I think he’s always been a better player than people give him credit for. I think he’s gotten a lot stronger. He really had to play a lot of small forward for us so he had to battle on the boards more than he should have. Our team make-up was such that he had to play that position. Now it’s really the first year that he’s playing guard and I think he’s had a lot of these skills. I think he’s gotten a lot stronger. I think his defense has always been really good. He makes a lot of good defensive plays. He’s making good passes and he’s playing good in our zone. He keeps guys moving and keeps them alert which is important.”
