Student-Athlete Quotes
Syracuse vs. Colgate
November 30, 2009
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Scoop Jardine, So., G
On the team having a fast scoring start to the game:
“I think we did what we were supposed to do tonight. Colgate is a (smaller) opponent so we pounded the ball inside. Once again, Wes and Andy got going and we opened it up.”
On how much it helps the team when Andy Rautins and Wes Johnson start scoring:
“It makes it easy for me and Brandon. We just pass it to them and they are on fire. It is an easy assist. When those two guys get going, it is going to be an easy night for us.”
On what he saw from the Colgate defense:
“I was just trying to attack. I knew that they were smaller down low so if I got by the first guy, I knew they were going to commit to me. I would just kick it out to the wing and it was working. We just pounded the ball in the inside to Arinze in the second half until they tried to stop us. “
Wes Johnson, Jr., F
On how important it is to take control of a game early:
“It is really just about coming out and trying to throw the first punch. We have a lot of confidence but we still are staying humble in the fact that we are playing well. It gives us a chance to get the younger guys out there so I think that is a big energy boost to have them come in.”
On not being selfish with the ball:
“I think a lot of guys on the team are looking for each other to pass and really trust each other. I think that plays into that.”
On what the experienced players told the younger players:
“We told them to come out with a lot of confidence and to come out to play the game and have fun like they do in practice. They have fun in practice, they shoot it then so when they come out on the court they can do it then too.”
Brandon Triche, Fr., G
On if he thinks Syracuse plays better in the second half of games:
“I think we make good adjustments in the second half. Today we jumped on them. Usually it takes us a little bit of time to get going but in the past few games we have been getting big leads at the beginning of the games.”
On if his confidence has increased:
“I am just playing my game and being aggressive. It is part of being on offense and being a point guard.”
On the talent Wes Johnson has:
“He can do it all. He can rebound, he can shoot, and he is good at attacking the basket and taking the three point shot. He actually is shooting it better than I expected. I am not sure how many he made today but I know that the last game he made four and he is just shooting the ball really well.”
