Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Harvard
Saturday, February 07, 2009
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
On the game:
“I was a little happier in the first half. I saw some things from the last scrimmage – some of the offsides and substitution violations – that we got rid of today, and we played a little bit better in the first half. We started out a little bit slow. We got caught up with our shooting as the game went on. I was pretty happy with the up and down the field action. We saw some combinations with the midfielders, and we were hurt on attack so we didn’t get as many guys through as we wanted to. All in all, it was a good day going into next week.”
On the faceoff situation:
“I thought Jake (Moulton) did okay in the first half. We made some mental errors in the second half. We’re going to have to get after it with our long sticks and our short sticks and turn them into ground balls, and really just compete for all of those ground balls.”
On getting Pat Perritt some action during the game:
“It was great. We found out on Friday that he was completely released from the doctor. It was good to get him out there for a few runs up and down the field. Obviously, we have to work on his conditioning, but it’s great to have him back and I’m sure you’ll see him next week.”
On the play of the team towards the end of the game:
“I think we were at a point in the scrimmage where the group that’s going to play a lot next week got their runs. We’re a little banged up so we didn’t want to have any injuries, so we were definitely a little more liberal in the second half. You don’t want to lose your edge and give up goals, but you have to get the other goalies in the game, so you always have to have plan “B”. We had a lot of plan “B” in the second half today.”
Pat Perritt, Senior, Midfield
On the team’s preseason:
“I don’t think there were any surprises. I think everyone is doing pretty well. We just need to continue to improve.”
On his health:
“I’m feeling good. I haven’t really practiced much and haven’t played too much – I’ve just taken a couple of runs. It was nice to finally get out there after sitting around watching. Hopefully we keep getting better and have a great season.”
On his injury scare during the game:
“I hadn’t been out there much and then I finally get out there and I get hit and tweaked my neck a little bit. It was a little bit frustrating.”
Stephen Keogh, Sophomore, Attack
On finally connecting for a goal:
“It was a good game overall. I finally put one in and got the monkey off my back. The offense was moving the ball well and I got one in.”
On scoring more often later in the game:
“Maybe it was nerves at the beginning, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net. We hit a couple of pipes, and just kept going and executing on offense.”
On what the team is taking from the game:
“We have a lot of things to work on that showed up in the game and we have to keep working hard in practice every day.”
John Galloway, Sophomore, Goalie
On how the team works together on the field:
“The communication of what defense we’re using is important, and overall, we were just very loud. I think we were getting Harvard confused a little bit in the second quarter. It’s great to see that we already have that communication and it’s only the second scrimmage.”
On what clicked for the defense during the game:
“Our defense really buckled down and they only let them take shots that I could stop. I didn’t make any incredible saves, only the saves that I should make. That’s a credit to our defense.”
On the most important things to improve on heading into the regular season:
“We need to keep improving our communication. I think our defense still has a long ways to go, but we’re really happy with what we did today, and that we improved our defense so quickly. We just have to keep working on the little things.”
