Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Rutgers
Saturday, April 11, 2009
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach John Desko:
Opening Statement:
“It was a good game. We have had the three games in eight days so I am happy with the outcome. I think the defense played pretty stingy. I thought Rutgers had some opportunities earlier in the game and I thought John [Galloway] made some good saves. I think he saw the ball really well and I think he saved some goals that would have gone in on another goalie. I was happy with how the defense played. I think we showed a lot of faith in [goalkeeper] Al Cavalieri to put him in the fourth quarter with the lead. He has been playing well in practice and helping the defense and pushing John [Galloway], so I think it was good to get him some game experience in case we need him in the future. I was happy with what he did also. “
On Chris Daniello’s performance:
“I thought he really got into a groove and looked comfortable out there early. I am really happy with what he is doing. Especially this last half of the season that he has played so far. He is putting some points up and made it look easy while doing it.”
On having six days to prepare before the next game:
“We have had three games in eight days so this week will help us prepare, get healthy and get back on track to one game a week. It will be good. It has been really difficult to only have a couple days to prepare for a team during this stretch so to have five or six days to get ready will be nice.”
Joel White, So. LSM
On SU’s turnovers in the first half:
“We can always execute better. We would like to limit turnovers every game. I think we just got excited today and shot the ball a lot better. We always try to limit turnovers, but at the same time we are trying to make plays.”
On communication during the game:
“I think today was one of the best communication efforts we have had this season. I think every time down the field we were communicating together. We had a couple mishaps, but that is going to happen. We are getting better and better and the team chemistry is coming together. We still have a long way to go, but we are definitely moving in the right direction.”
John Galloway, So. Goalkeeper
On the first half shutout:
“I think we really communicated well defensively. It was an effort that we really put together for a full thirty minutes. Rutgers is a good team offensively. We are not taking anything away from that. I think our defense played really well today and communicated well.”
Kenny Nims, Sr. Attack
On having almost a full week between games the rest of the season:
“It has been a long week. Guys have been getting banged up lately and over the course of the season, so to have time between games from now until the end of the season is good. Everyone can be at full strength and come out and play like we know we can for the rest of the season.“
