Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Colgate
Saturday, May 2, 2009
Carrier Dome/Syracuse N.Y.
Head Coach John Desko
Opening Statement:
“I think it was a really good game for both teams given the recent history between the two teams. Colgate needed a win today, so the game definitely had a playoff atmosphere to it. We wanted to win the game after losing to them the past two years. We want to play well going into the playoffs. Our defense has played very well two weeks in a row, especially with them winning faceoffs and winning possessions and keeping the ball away from our offense. I think it was a very good win for us today.”

On Colgate’s run in the second half:
“I think it was a typical game where we have what looks to be somewhat of a comfortable lead and the other team has to make a run to get back in the game. Colgate did that and showed some character there. Jake [Moulton] won the faceoff and scored his first career goal and stopped their momentum. We needed a goal at that point and he got it for us. We were then able to win a few faceoffs and take time off the clock.”

On Cody Jamieson’s performance:
“He has waited a long time to play. I thought Chris [Daniello] played well in the first quarter. We substituted Cody in there to get some game experience. Tim Desko was in there as well. Those guys are splitting time and they did pretty well out there today.”

On 11 players scoring goals:
“It makes me feel good. The other team has to put together a scouting report on us and it is hard to focus on one player. They have to understand all of our characteristics and abilities. It is a hard report to put together.”

Dan Hardy, Sr., Midfield
On 11 players scoring goals:
“It provides a lot of confidence for everyone. Cody [Jamieson] scored today. Tim Desko had a couple as well. All of us got involved in the midfield. I think the ball was moving pretty well today. I think we are all feeling good. It was a pretty good regular season for us and now we want to move on and get into playoffs and make a run for the national championship again.”

Sid Smith, Sr., Defense
On the defensive performance:
“Our defense has been playing really well and that is a tribute to our offense. They hold the ball for a long time, which allows us to catch our breath so that when the other team does get the ball we can play at our full potential. We knew on defense we had to not let them get any closer and we were able to stop them from scoring. We definitely we want to be playing our best at the end of the year. We want to be peaking right now. That’s what it’s all about.”

Kenny Nims, Sr., Attack
On the win:
“It feels nice to get a win on Senior Day against Colgate. They played a great game. We just wanted to come out and play well, be sharp and get some momentum going into the playoffs. It was huge for us to come out and put up four quick goals. It was a great thing for us. This is a good win and it is nice to beat Colgate after losing to them last year.”

On the playoffs:
“I feel like this marks only the first half of the season and there is a whole other season in itself when we get to playoffs. We have to go back to basics and do what we did at the beginning of the year. This will be another long stretch for us. We have to be able to put together a 60-minute game.”
