Syracuse is 6-0 all-time at the Carrier Dome against teams that are current members of the Football Championship Subdivision (3-0 vs. Colgate; 1-0 vs. Rhode Island; 1-0 vs. Northeastern; 1-0 vs. Maine) … The Orange has won 27 straight games against current FCS opponents.
Running back Antwon Bailey made the first start of his career Saturday night … Bailey was part of an empty-backfield, five wide-receiver set … On the other side of the ball, Shamarko Thomas earned his first starting nod in the defensive backfield.
Wide receiver Mike Williams caught five passes for 80 yards against the Black Bears … He extended his consecutive games with a catch streak to 24 with his first reception and also passed Rob Carpenter to move into fifth on SU’s career receiving yards record list with the catch … The consecutive games with a catch mark ranks fourth on the SU record list … Williams has 1,735 career receiving yards.
Running back Delone Carter registered the first TD reception of his career in the first quarter to put the Orange in front, 7-0 … Carter had a career-long 21-yard reception in the second quarter … Carter finished the game with a career-high tying four touchdowns (vs. Wyoming, 2006) … Tied for fourth on SU’s single-game record chart … His 24 points scored is also tied for fourth … He finished with 72 rushing yards on 19 carries and 23 yards receiving on two catches … Carter has 1,134 career rushing yards.
Wide receiver Alec Lemon had a career-long 19-yard reception in the third quarter.
Syracuse’s 86-yard scoring drive in the third quarter was its longest of the season … It spanned eight plays and used 3:41 of clock time.
Linebacker Doug Hogue intercepted the first pass of his career in the third quarter to help set up an Orange touchdown.
Maine committed 17 penalties for 132 yards, both records for a Syracuse opponent.
Orange quarterback Greg Paulus completed passes to 11 different receivers Saturday … Paulus was 21-of-28 for 270 yards and a touchdown.
SU tight ends caught five passes for 70 yards, including Nick Provo’s career-high 47 receiving yards.
Syracuse’s 41 points was the most the Orange has scored since it defeated Boston College in the regular-season finale, 43-17, on November 27, 2004.
Syracuse is .500 (2-2) for the first time since 2006 … The Orange also started that season 2-2 and extended its record to 3-2 after the fifth game of the season.
