Coach Boeheim USF Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. USF
January 10, 2010
Carrier Dome – Syracuse, N.Y.
Opening statement:
"We did a good job defensively today for the most part. We let (Dominique) Jones get away a couple times, and he hurts you when he gets away. We were better with the ball, we moved the ball better on the inside and we finished inside pretty good. It was a pretty solid defensive game, and we have to keep getting better there in that situation.
What happened to Kris Joseph?
"He hurt his ankle. He maybe could have played, but he really didn't think he could, so we were fortunate that we were able to rest him."
What did you notice about the play of Rick Jackson?
"He started slow, and then he missed a couple, and then he made a couple of really hard shots. Then he got the ball back inside and the ball almost slipped out of his hands a couple times. He could have had a big game, but he had a good game. Arinze (Onuaku) had a good game. Foul trouble kept him from having a real big game, but he was really good. He went to the basket strong, and made some really strong plays."
How important are Jackson and Onuaku together in the BIG EAST?
"We have a balance of inside and outside. People are playing Andy (Rautins) so hard, they're not giving Andy looks at all, and that opens it up inside. Those guys have got an opportunity to work down there. When they double-team, they stay on Andy, so that leaves one or two guys open because they're not rotating off (Andy) and we have people open all over the place."
What did you think about the defensive effort today?
"They are not a good shooting team and we just lost (Dominique) Jones a couple times and he had a lot of free throws. We just have to play better -- we can't foul. The other guys are not great shooters, but we got to them pretty much. We did a better job of movement; we moved better, we found the shooters better. (Jarrid) Famous hurt us a little early, and then we got him a little bit better under control. We can still rebound better; we just have to keep working at it."
What do you think about the upcoming three-game road trip?
"Everybody's got the same number of road games in the league, and you just have to be ready to go. We've been on the road, we've played tough places, and we're ready for that."
