Syracuse vs. Georgetown

Syracuse, N.Y. –Carrier Dome
Arinze Onuaku, Senior, Forward
What did you think about the 14-0 lead in the beginning of the game?
“Early on they were on fire. We came back from an early tough lead, so that just shows how good our team can be.”
How did you feel about Greg Monroe fouling out?
“He is a tough player. Everyone knows that. You have to make them work on both ends of the court and that’s what we tried to do. We wanted to make them play defense and so if we foul him out of the game it really makes a difference and that’s what we tried to do.”
What did you think of the crowd, especially during the comeback?
“It was great. When you have a crowd like that it kind of shakes up the other team and gets it going. The fans were great for us tonight.”
Wesley Johnson, Junior, Forward
What defensive adjustments did you make after the quick start by Georgetown?
"We just made sure that they couldn’t make tough shoots. We made it too easy shooting threes at the top of the key without putting any pressure on them. We needed to get out there and put more pressure on them.”
Does the defense ignite the offense?
“Well definitely. That’s what we feed off of is our defense. We get a deflection or steal or a block -- that’s when we get out on transition and make plays."
Do you think your blocked shots helped turn the game around?
“That’s what we look forward to on defense, just making the right rotations and get out there and make the right plays. Coach was telling me if they get the ball down low just really come off the weak side and make a block, so I just tried to do that.”
Scoop Jardine, Sophomore, Guard
What did you want to change up once you got in there?
“Our defense and intensity. We were flat-footed in the beginning so when I got in I tried to be more aggressive and tried to get steals. When I got in we got a couple steals and were able to get into transition.”
Could you guys feel the energy coming from the crowd?
“It was crazy. We were down 14-0 and they (the crowd) were still in it. So I know once I made one play we were going to wake up and that’s what I did.”
