Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Denver
Friday, February 19, 2010
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach John Desko
On the team's overall performance:
“We got off to a good start, we put some points up early and as a result, the rest of our team got more comfortable and more confident as the game went on. We played a new team in the Carrier Dome that isn’t really comfortable or hasn’t had a chance to get comfortable yet. I think we figured them out pretty quickly and adjusted defensively.
“I think (junior goalkeeper) John Galloway played well again tonight. He showed that he is older and wiser, more experienced. When he did have the opportunity, he was able to shut the door. Offensively, we got the transitions that we wanted, scored and showed the offense that we wanted. I was little disappointed that we gave up some goals at the end, but it was game experience for some defense that was a little bit cold.”
On playing a team from out west:
“It is great for the game of lacrosse that Denver came here to play. They have a great coaching staff and played well tonight.”
On the number of players that found the scoring column:
“I’d much rather have a team that has a number of people scoring on it than one or two players making all of the points. We become that much harder to cover. It was great to have a number of the young guys get in some scoring positions and we really need to build on that.”
Jovan Miller, Junior, Midfield
On how the team did today:
"We did very well today. We worked hard and came out with a great win."
On the offensive balance:
"We are a just an unselfish team. We don’t really care who gets it done as long as at the end of the day we have more goals than the other team. It doesn’t really matter who does our scoring."
Jeremy Thompson, Junior, Midfield
On how it felt to have some of his old classmates from Onondaga Community College at the game:
"It was great to them. I was really excited. It was a big relief and I had a lot of fun out there. It was a pretty good day."
On scoring his first goal:
"After the faceoff, I went down and I saw the opportunity. I was going to pass it at the last second, but I decided to shoot it."
Max Bartig, Senior, Midfield
On how he felt out there:
"It felt really good. We had a nice four-man rotation. It was good to get out there early. In scrimmages we had a hard time doing that, but we just went out there in the first quarter and got a nice lead."
On playing with Jovan Miller and Josh Amidon:
"We are starting to get into a groove. Those guys do a lot. They get down, they go back and forth and they play defense. It is nice to be that guy that can get in there on offense and manage it well."
Cody Jamieson, Senior, Attack
On the offense performance:
"It went well. We have a lot of stuff to work on, but anytime you get a win under your belt, especially the first game of the season in the Dome, it feels good."
On if wearing #22 gives him super powers:
"I just got lucky today. A few times the ball fell right in my stick for a lay-up goal. Once I start flying around the Dome I will let you know."
