Recruiting Coordinator Greg Adkins NLI Signing Day Press Conference Transcript
Opening Statement:
“I echo a lot of the things that Coach Marrone already said. This is a class that has great athleticism. We started in the state of New York and worked our way out to meet our needs. It was versatility and positional needs. We needed help in all of our areas and we met that need in terms of offensive and defensive line, linebackers, every position that you can fill on a football team, we signed somebody today.”
On how many of the recruits were ‘first-offer’ players:
“I haven’t really looked at it that closely in terms of ‘first-offers’. There are a lot of kids who we were after for a long period of time, especially the in-state kids and the kids within that 250 mile radius that Coach Marrone was talking about. Some we got early and some we got a little further down the road, but it all comes back to the relationships that we’ve built among the staff and throughout the country with these high school and junior college coaches. They trust in what we’re trying to get accomplished here at Syracuse.”
On whether they started going after the recruits early, especially with such a big class:
“I think any time you are going to have a large number sign, it is important to create a base. I thought we did a good job getting a number of kids committed to us early and prior to the start of the season last year. That created a base and then we continued to work and build this thing up to what it is.”
