Syracuse vs. Rutgers
March 28, 2010
Carrier Dome- Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Gary Gait:
On the difference in play between today and the past two games:
“Just focus, execution and taking advantage of the opportunities given to us. It was certainly a strong first half on the offensive end of the field, and we’ll continue to work on our focus a little more in the second half. Hopefully we can improve on that and create some more consistency throughout the 60 minutes.”
On Christina Dove and Tee Ladouceur:
“A senior and a junior stepping up to lead the offense on this team. We look for them to do that. You have to develop some leadership and I think Ladouceur has really stepped up and not only done it on the field, but settled the offense and made sure what we were running for plays. She takes on the role as the leader and quarterback from behind the cage. So look for her to continue that. And Christina Dove is a Team USA player that just goes hard and plays well and has great skills.”
On how they’re dealing with the losses to injury:
“It was better than last game, that’s for sure. But we have lots to work on. We lost our verbal leader and our top defender. And we’re just trying to get our groove together and gel. Today was a good game to start focusing on that and we’ll get better as we go.”
On having an offense that can score at any time:
“That was my goal from day one, to create an offense where you could attack from behind, up top, left, right and really create some balance. And so far, they’ve done a pretty good job. We certainly have a couple players dominating, but everybody does their part and everybody gets opportunities. Hopefully we’ll all continue to improve and even get better on the offense end.”
Halley Quillinan, Senior, Midfield
On being back in the Carrier Dome:
“Dome sweet Dome. We’re so happy to be here. We’ve been playing outside for a couple weeks now and we love it in here. Now I’m a senior and it’s my last season in here. So it was really exciting to be back in here and really exciting to get a win.”
On Christina Dove and Tee Ladouceur:
“I think they’re terrific scorers. They have a lot of goals every single game we play. That’s really unique and they’re very skilled attackers. Tee is poised around the net and pretty much unmatched. She was doubled earlier and she was still able to put it away. And Dove – give her a step and she takes a mile. She’s a rocket.”
Christina Dove, Senior, Midfield
On the first conference game of the season:
“We were trying to come out a lot harder today and prove a point, especially in our first BIG EAST game. We all wanted to come out and prove a point, so it was good to get started on offense and defense and just get momentum going.”
On Tee Ladouceur’s play:
“I think she played great and she played confident behind the goal and looked for assists and goals. She was really important in winning this game today.”
Jackie DePetris, Senior, Attack
On how they played today after losing two in a row:
“We wanted to come out today and work really hard right off the bat because we wanted to show the heart and the hustle that we know we have. We just wanted to start off strong. And that helped us score some goals really fast.”
On how they handled the defense today:
“I think we just knew that we wanted to push it and depending on whatever the defense was going to do – whether they were going to pressure out or hang on the eight – we just wanted to go right at them really quick and go hard right away.”
On the team’s attack position:
“To have that depth on attack is such a compliment to our team and our coaching because we have that depth and that ability to get subs in and have everybody score and have an opportunity.”
