First Baseman Kelly Saco's Blog
Dear ‘Cuse fans,
I would like to welcome you to the first ever softball blog! Whether you are already familiar with the team or have stumbled upon our page for the first time, I welcome you. I will admit I’ve never really done this before but I promise you I’m gonna give it my best shot.
THE TRAVEL LUCK CONTINUES…
It may be April fools but this is no joke...the travel-gods don't seem to be on our side this year. We are currently sprawled out all over the sidewalk outside of Manley field house, awaiting the bus that apparently didn't know we were leaving today...remind you of anything?
If it wasn't such a beautiful day, this hour wait and counting, would probably bring back nightmares of spring break travels where the seven hour bus ride to DC was anything but pleasant.
But today its 70 degrees and sunny, with not a cloud in the sky. Most of the team is kicking back, shades on, leaning up against our bags, tryin to soak up the much sunshine as possible.
Some of us have taken out of gloves to toss the ball around, trying to entertain ourselves before we are confined in a bus for 7 long hours.
Now that we have been waiting for over an hour and still have heard no word from the bus company, I'm going to make use of my time by attempting to get my tan back while catching up on some overdue reading.
Hopefully the next time I'm writing to you, it will be from my laptop in a DC hotel room...and not my iPhone from the Manley sidewalk.
Enjoy the beautiful day!

P.S. UPDATE....we did not leave Manley till 6 pm....arrival in DC: 12:45 a.m.
THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
I cannot even begin to describe how good it felt to finally play our first home games after spending the past month everywhere but. After two straight days of miserable drizzle, the sun hung high in a cloudless sky. The feeling of seeing the Syracuse flag waving proudly on the left field fence, set apart from those of our Big East rivals, is unmatched.
The team warmed up loose and relaxed, all excited to finally be playing before our home crowd on the field we know and love. And it showed, we swept Buffalo in home opener. Britt and Jenna both had great performances on the mound and Ronnie hit her first homerun to end the day!!
I think the entire team could agree that there’s no place like home…
Till next time,
GO ‘CUSE!

SPRING BREAK RECAP…the adventure before the adventure:
When Thursday afternoon rolled around, the team met up at Manley Field House reppin’ our shades, anticipating the feeling of the warm rays of the sun upon our skins. In T minus 5 hours we would officially begin our 2010 spring break…if only that was the case…
We loaded our “slightly” over-packed bags into the bus and were soon enough on our way to the airport. When we arrived, we toughed it through security and one by one began to make ourselves comfortable in front of our gate labeled by our connecting flight: Washington D.C. Distracting ourselves with homework, music or catching up on sleep, the airlines informed us of news we were already too accustomed to hearing: our plane is having mechanical problems. A couple sighs and groans later we were able to board our flight just to taken right back off 30 minutes later…our flight had now been canceled.
The delays that set us back before caused us to miss our connecting flight in D.C….not that we would have been able to get out of Syracuse anyway, flights were booked solid for the next two days. After a series of frantic phones and many strings pulled, we were able to find 4 different flights leaving out of D.C. the next morning. At 7 p.m. a bus picked us up at the airport and shipped us 7 hours south to D.C. We finally arrived at 2 a.m. and with our eyes barely open managed to find our way to our hotel rooms.
We the luck of the draw, our trainer Katie and teammate Emily only got to enjoy 2 hours of sleep before catching the first flight at 7 a.m. Next up, Coach Ross and Coach Tinch, the “8 a.m.” flight…now you may be wondering why there are quotes around that time…well, it’s because they spent an hour and a half sitting on the runway before actually taking off, turning takeoff time into 9:30 a.m.
And the 3rd flight out, a flight that was supposed to be carrying 9 of us with the hopes of putting a team on the field for our games that were scheduled for later that night…with the luck we’ve been having, you’re probably not shocked when I tell you that didn’t exactly happen…
Thanks to an overbooked, heavy flight and the torrential downpour in Florida, only four of us made it on, leaving the other flight in D.C. with no tickets.
The last flight was scheduled for coach king and the rest of team at 2:30…five of those people gave up their seats for the five who got kicked off the earlier flight; Coach King and four girls spent yet another night in D.C. to catch their new, and FINAL flight out the next day. As for the girls on the 2:30 flight: delayed 2 hours but finally made it into Boca at 8 p.m. that night.
Thankfully, something seemed to go our way. The weather in Florida was so bad, all the games were pushed back a day.
GO ‘CUSE,
