Syracuse returned to the Women's Building for its last day of double sessions in preseason camp. In the late session, the Orange began working on game planning for its upcoming season opener at Colgate. The team spent a lot of time working in a 6-on-6 full match simulation, best of five to 25.
The Orange enjoyed its first day off during preseason camp today to relax, recooperate and recharge the batteries in preparation for Friday's season opener. Many members of the team took the afternoon to visit Green Lakes State Park. Stay tuned for a day off video later this week.
Happy Birthday to sophomore defensive specialist Zoe Guzman! The team is back in the Women's Building for two practice sessions today as we head into the first match week of the season. Five days and counting until first serve. In the morning session the team continued to focus on serve receive offense while outside hitters Samantha Clarey, Noemie Lefebvre and Hayley Todd worked on attacking defense to offense. During some of their downtime the freshmen filmed episode two of SUVB Cribs inside Ernie Davis Hall ... Check out some of head coach Jing Pu's drills from this week of practice... The focus of tonight's practice was teamwork, the team did a lot of 6-on-6 scrimmaging as well as drills focusing on defense and back row attacks.
The annual Alumni Match was a success, seven Syracuse volleyball alumni from 1992 through 2009 challenged the varsity in a four-set match. Though it was the strongest alumni squad yet, the varsity triumphed in all four sets. All the hitters were impressive today, especially freshmen Samantha Clarey and Lindsay McCabe, who saw their first live action as members of the Orange. Fellow rookie Amanda Kullman also did a nice job stepping in and directing the offense in the third set. Read the full post-match recap here. With the second week of preseason camp winding down, the Orange spent its morning practice session working on serve receive offense in preparation for tomorrows Alumni Match. Mindy Stanislovaitis, Noemie Lefebvre, and Samantha Clarey were rotating into the two outside hitter slots during the drill and each fired off some impressive kills while Sarah Hayes, Zoe Guzman and Ashley Williams split time in the back row. Rookie setter Amanda Kullman directed the offense during the drill while sophomore Laura Homann worked with Hayley Todd and the middle blockers on the neighboring court. The morning session wrapped up in the Women's Building weight room with strength and conditioning coach Veronica Dyer. The Orange returns to the gym tonight for drills and scrimmage action before facing off against the alumni squad tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Women's Building. The scrimmage action waged on in the morning session of practice, with assistant coaches Carol LaMarche and Shawn Mahmoudi joining in the mix. The Orange is looking better everyday, sophomore Laura Homann and freshman Amanda Kullman did a nice job directing the offense on either side of the net.
Happy Birthday to junior outside hitter Erin Little! During some rare down time this week, seniors Sarah Hayes, Hayley Todd and Little took viewers on an MTV Cribs style tour of their house as one of the first installments in this season's Video Blog. Rumor has it the rookies will be coming out with SUVB Cribs episode two later this week. The Orange scaled things back on day ten of preseason practice, reducing its daily workout to a morning session in the gym, followed by a weight room workout. The morning session was a lighter workout, consisting of mainly scrimmage type games. The hitters and defensive specialists have gone head-to-head in scrimmage action the last few days and have been evenly matched every time with the defense taking one of two sets and the hitters taking the other. The gym session was followed by 40 minutes of weight training with strength and conditioning coach Veronica Dyer. "Today was a lighter workout because everyone has really been feeling the fatigue of preseason camp," assistant coach Shawn Mahmoudi said. "We're giving them the night off to rest and we'll dive back into double sessions tomorrow."

The Orange wrapped up what has been a busy day on and off the court. The team got to work early this morning with a 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. practice in the gym, before annual picture day - we'll be posting the new headshots and team picture tomorrow. The day ended with a 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. practice session in the gym. Check out highlights from this mornings practice ... Junior outside hitter Erin Little also gives us a behind-the-scenes look at headshot day ... Tonights gym session focused mainly on hitting and pass, set, hit progression in three-on-three drills. The veteran hitters were most impressive tonight, Hayley Todd, Mindy Stanislovaitis, Noemie Lefebvre and Samantha Hinz were all firing off some powerful kills. With their visible improvement, head coach Jing Pu challenge Hinz and Stanislovaitis to triple their offensive production this season.
Week one of preseason camp is coming to a close for the Orange, as the team reduces to two sessions in the gym today. Head coach Jing Pu got things started this morning with Jing Pu's stretch of the day... It was all position drills in the morning session, outside hitters and setters worked through passing and setting drills on one court while the middle blockers hit at the defensive specialists on the other. Seniors Hayley Todd and Mindy Stanislovaitis have been impressive at the net through the first week of camp, both showing improved consistency, accuracy and hitting power. Later in the session the defensive specialists worked through serve receive passing while the outside hitters, middle blockers and setters started working on blocking technique. The team wrapped up practice with a weight room session in the Women's Building weight room. We're one week away from the first opportunity for fans to come watch the Orange in action as they take the court against the alumni next Saturday, August 21 at 4 p.m. in the Women's Building.

Head coach Jing Pu livened things up with a new drill, check out Jing Pu's drill of the day... Defensive specialists Ashley Williams and Zoe Guzman won the race, they said they used their height as an advantage, they didn't have to jump as high as the Hayley Todd, Mindy Stanislovaitis team.
We caught up with the Orange in its morning session again today and got to see a lot of 6-on-6 game action. Its only day four, but the hitters and blocking was impressive today. Outside hitters Hayley Todd, Mindy Stanislovaitis, Erin Little and Noemie Lefebvre were all firing off some powerful kills, along with freshman Lindsay McCabe. Stanislovaitis, Little and Todd all had some solo blocks of note as well.
SUAthletics.com checked in on the Orange in its early gym session today, after team breakfast at 8:30 a.m. the squad returned to the Women's Building for more position drills and conditioning. When we arrived the team was split into two groups trying to set balls into basketball hoops that were at least 15 feet high. The freshmen and defensive specialists then worked on passing while the remaining six warmed up to hit. Head coach Jing Pu - entering his fifteenth season with the Orange - checked in during the teams lunch break.
Syracuse continues to step its game up with three sessions of work today. The Orange worked on position drills and conditioning in the Women's Building this morning, before a weight room session with strength and conditioning coach Veronica Dyer. They returned to the Women's Building for drills and scrimmaging in the third session. "Despite the deep fatigue of triple sessions setting in, everyone is doing really well," senior outside hitter Hayley Todd said. "We're all pulling together as a team. We did a little bit of everything today and personally I'm comfortable and confident." Freshman middle blocker Lindsay McCabe was especially impressive on day two, with a vertical leap topping 10 feet. The Orange dove right into preseason practice with its first double session day. The day began with 8 a.m. strength and conditioning testing before a practice session of drills and 3-on-3. The team reconvened after dinner for scrimmaging on the newly refinished game court.
The volleyball squad returned to campus today to begin preparations for the 2010 season. The team met with coaches, trainers, the compliance staff, the academic staff and the athletic communications staff before passing their preseason physicals and getting their equipment.
