Syracuse vs. Fordham
Student-Athlete Quotes

Dion Waiters, Sophomore, Guard
How easy was the offense coming for you?
“Mike (Carter-Williams) was calling plays for me. I was just taking what they gave me. If they gave me a lane, I drove. If I had a shot, I took it.”
Does the depth the team on help you play as hard as possible?
“That is the thing about it. You can play hard and get a breather real fast. They will get you in and out of there. That is the best thing about having a lot of guys. We are going to keep playing together.”
Can you comment on Fab Melo’s blocked shots and rebounds getting the team going?
“He can block shots. Baye (Keita) can block shots too. They give us offense and also get a lot of rebounds. Rakeem (Christmas) had some big rebounds in the second half too. We just got on the glass.”
Does having so many games close together help you guys get into a rhythm?
“Yes. We have been waiting too long. We have to be ready.”
Kris Joseph, Senior, Forward
How did you get going offense today?
"Just before the game, I was working really hard on my shooting. I got a couple layups here and there. It boosted my confidence. I kept playing hard and staying aggressive."
How does it feel to have so much roster depth?
"It is great. It reminds of the year we had Wesley Johnson, Andy Rautins, Arinze Onuaku and I. We were deep that year. We had guys that could come in and interchange at different positions. It is a great thing to have. We can take a quick break and go back in.”
How do you feel about the team’s defense?
“That is the key for us. As long as we are active in our zone with our length and our size we will be fine. From the point guard to the center, we have a lot of size. As long as we are active, we will disrupt a lot of offenses.”
Scoop Jardine, Senior, Guard
Can you talk about the team’s depth?
“We have a lot of firepower. If I am playing bad, we have guards that can go in and pick up something. That is what you need to win the national championship.”
How did you like the offensive balance today?
“It was great. We have a lot of guys that can score. We have 10 guys that can fill it up. We also have guys that do not even play that can score the basketball. We have to stay efficient and play team defense every night.”
How did the big men play today?
“They control the paint. They will get their opportunities to score throughout the season. Everyone gets their opportunities. They just have to capitalize on it. Their main focus is to rebound defend and control the paint. They did a great job doing it today."
What do you think of playing three games in four day?
“It is great. We have been waiting seven to eight months for this after we lost to Marquette. There is nothing like this time of year to get in the flow of things. We have three games. That is what we want. Manhattan is a good team coming in. We have to find ourselves against them and continue to take it one game at a time. Our biggest goal is to win it in March, but we have to get better now.”
