Syracuse vs. Manhattan Player Quotes
Syracuse vs. Manhattan
November 14, 2011
Syracuse, N.Y. – Carrier Dome
Senior Forward Kris Joseph
Could you talk about the overall effort and the win?
“It started on the defensive end for us. We forced nearly 30 turnovers as a team. That is where it is going to start for us. We played aggressive. Our man-to-man was aggressive. Our zone was aggressive. When we pressed, we were aggressive and got some steals out of that. If we continue to do that for the whole year, we will be successful.”
Could you talk about the early stretch where you had those three consecutive three point-field goals?
“I was feeling it -- that was it. I shot with the big ball and got back to my routine shooting with the big ball before the game starts. My little warm-up. I knew I was four points away from 1,000 and I just wanted to get them as quickly as possible.”
What does the 1,000 point club mean to you?
“It means a lot to me. Growing up, I always told myself whatever college I go to, I want to be a part of that club. It is a great honor and an elite club to be a part of. Fortunately enough, I was able to do it here at Syracuse University.”
Junior Forward James Southerland
What have you done to improve in the offseason and preseason?
“Playing aggressive, working on rebounding, and being consistent. Consistency is a big thing. You have to stay focused. When you stay focused, everything comes into place.”
Could you talk about your night specifically?
“I feel like I did a good job, looking at the stat sheets. Staying active is when you do a lot of things, whether it is a block, assist, or rebound.”
Do you think the team likes throwing alley-oops to you specifically?
“I always look to get up the floor and I think I jump pretty high. No matter who throws it to me, it is going to be pretty exciting.”
Sophomore Center Fab Melo
Is being active on the boards indicative of your preseason workouts?
“Absolutely, that is what I try to do every game is help the team with rebounds. All of the big guys can help with the rebounds and I think we do a pretty good job.”
Were you aware of how long it took to get a field goal in the second half?
“Yes, it took us a long time to score. Things like that will happen.”
How confident do you feel playing man-to-man defense?
“Not just me -- the whole team feels confident playing man-to-man. We work hard in practice everyday to do so.”
