As far as some of the turnovers go, I know coach got a little bit mad at you on that one…
“Yeah because in a close game, it doesn’t have anything to do with this game, but in a close game when we have the momentum and we’re trying to come back, then that’s not a homerun play I want to do. I just got Brandon one, I thought I could get Kris one, but I guess coach was right, coach said you want to make the easy pass.”
How about that one to Brandon?
"That was right after, so that’s what I thought I was going for one for Kris. You know any little play like that will get a team like Saint Rose out of it, or dunk, or something to get our crowd into it, and we can feed off of that."
Any thoughts of LeMoyne when the score was tied at halftime?
"No, no thoughts, you never want to even think about that, but we remember that feeling and try to not let that happen again."
Michael Carter-Williams
Did you guys sense that Saint Rose really couldn’t handle that, once you guys started pressing?
"Yeah, I know they had a little trouble when we got a few steals in the second half. We definitely picked it up and just played a lot harder, we got deflections and steals and it gave us easy baskets."
Starting to play like that defensively, did that help you offensively? It seems it got you going offensively.
"Yes. As soon as we got steals we got open shots, everyone got confident, confident in their shots, so did I."
You made three 3’s today, I imagine at this point you’re sitting there on your stool and your feeling pretty good about this…
"Yeah definitely, I was 0-2 last game, it’s good to get a few this game and just get my confidence up and just looking forward to next game."
Kris Joseph
The other coach said it seems like Noah’s Ark, you’ve got two of everything…
"Yep, I mean that’s exactly what it is. We have great guards, forwards, our centers are great and that’s what’s going to keep us going throughout the whole year. Our bench is going to be just as big as the starters and the starters are going to be just as big as the bench. No man is greater than the other, we all play the same exact role, and we’re all here for the same exact reasons, and that’s to win basketball games."
With three games in four days to start the season, are you guys really going to be asking some of those bench guys to play some, because that’s going to be a lot games in a short period of time?
"It is, but you know what, we’ve been there before. The younger guys don’t know what it’s like to play that many games in a short amount of time, but we will walk them through it. They know it’s a lot of games, and I know they’re excited for it. But like I said, it’s the depth on our team that’s going to help us through those games."
What did you think of Mike Carter-Williams play tonight?
"Mike played well. I remember after the first game I told him, there is a lot of basketball to be played, not to do it all in one game, especially if it is an exhibition. He came out tonight and played with a whole new attitude. And just played with confidence and that definitely helped him."
After the summer, and not being able to play much, where are you at right now?
"I’m fine. You know I feel great, I’m just excited for the regular season to kick off on Saturday. My teammates are definitely going to help me through the season, my coaching staff. And I feel great."
